Please do not in any circumstances resort to name calling or behaviour that could be deemed as bullying or harassment. Specifically, regarding the term 'scab'. It does have an historical meaning in some circles, but it can also be seen as abuse by others. Therefore members are requested to use the more acceptable term of 'Strike Breaker'

If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

So what makes you think you are risking any more than the rest of us?
There's guys in my office paying mortgages,CSA payments, loans, car repayments, the lot.....they've only been in the job a few years, some of them are part-timers,and some of them aren't even in the union! But because they sort on the same floor every morning, they're going to be on that line with us,and take whatever knocks we take, financially or otherwise! Because they see it as the right thing to do!

Fair play to you for your honesty, but quite frankly I'm disgusted. An former rep should know better and I'm glad you don't work at my unit.
Maybe your heavy heart and guilty concience will eat away at you enough to help you change your mind.

Take a good, hard look at yourself.

I think you will find the term SCAB has more than a historical meaning and can be found in every dictionary.
Irwin, Jones, McGovern (2008) believe that the term 'scab' is part of a larger metaphor involving strikes. They argue that the picket line is symbolic of a wound and those who break its borders to return to work are the strike breakers who bond that wound. Others have argued that the word is not a part of a larger metaphor but, rather, originates from the old-fashioned English insult, "scab." The OED gives the etymology of 'scab' in this sense as a term of abuse or depreciation derived from the MDu. schabbe, applied to women with the senses ‘slut’ and ‘scold’ and 'scurvy'.

"Blackleg" is an older word and is found in the late-nineteenth/early-twentieth century folk song from Northumberland, Blackleg Miner. The term does not necessarily owe its origins to this tune of unknown origin. The song is, however, notable for its lyrics that encourage violent acts against strikebreakers.
Strike breaking
Some companies negotiate with the union during a strike; other companies may see a strike as an opportunity to eliminate the union. This is sometimes accomplished by the importation of replacement workers, strikebreakers or "strike breakers". Historically, strike breaking has often coincided with union busting. It was also called 'Black legging' in the early 20th century, during the Russian socialist movement.[9]

No problem mate, of course it's all down to just 'me' and I'll take all the blame.

To truly understand where I'm coming from just you reply after four years a rep. I'm sure the jaded feeling with both the union and typical 'workmates' (coming in early, rushing around, using cars, not speaking out until an issue directly involves them) will leave you with the same opinion as I have. Besides my decision was motivated by necessary financial obligations and did cause much soul searching but after seeking advice and receiving nothing but immature name calling I'm more than convinced now that my decision is right.
It would be simply wonderful for someone to actually think before replying and ponder the reality that more posties than ever before will be crossing the line...and why do you think that is?
Just to clarify a few points. The wage structure was agreed by the union, the unpaid hours again thanks to the union via damn 'flexibilty' and as for harassment...are you not capable of sticking up for yourself?
Personally I'm still hoping that the current negotiations will be fruitful. After all many of us supported this action with the belief that our intent to strike would be enough to warrant further talks.
Just remember the recent 2007 strikes, apart from the poxy four hundred quid I dare you to name just one positive?
I'll stop as I know I'm wasting my time. Sheep, the lot of you!

The problem is OGG is that you know what you are going to do is wrong, otherwise you would'nt be so defensive about all the comments, others who are strike breakers don't care because they have no morals, but you obviously do have morals, feeling the way you do now or lose blood money.there is only one option.
