Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
I hope there is some stomach for a fight from HQ & the branches, and ideas & plans are being worked on.
I don't want London left on there own, but also don't want a National strike that only solves London problems.
The reasons for IA need explaining fully to the members with clear aims & objectives that improve ALL members T&Cs now and for many years to come.
I think unfortunately it will take a little time to convince enough members to sit up & take notice of what's going on, before a yes vote for IA nationally.

This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
I would love to hear what angle CWU HQ would put on a call for a national ballot. As you say gb there are and have been a myriad of problems since the agreement which the CWU have chosen to ignore. Prior to the national ballot in 2009, there was quite a number of individual ballots many of whom were out for up to 19 days which garnered no response from RM until the national ballot kicked in.
If only the CWU had stuck with the membership, been inclusive, communicative and aware of the growing gap between the aspirations of the membership and the leadership a national ballot would have been a given.

I may be missing something but at no point have RM stated there will be complusory redundancies.
Is this proposed ballot based on speculation or facts?

Extrapolation I think rather than speculation.pickaname wrote:I may be missing something but at no point have RM stated there will be compulsory redundancies.

Quite rightly Royal Mail put the best spin on it and the CWU the worst but basically its all about numbers and the one thing RM and the CWU do agree on is that there will be losses of jobs in London as there is not enough to go around.
Royal Mail will say they will offer people jobs if they remain flexible enough. The CWU say that some of the offers won't be suitable (too much travel etc) and that in effect its compulsory redundancy , I agree BTW but it is what they have faced in ofther Mail centre Closures. The main difference I can see is that the numbers are greater in London and that CR is probably a given but at the moment its a war of words.
Will I vote for a strike to Stop CRs in London - Yes - Just like I would have done if the other regions had asked for support.
One thing does confuse me though, probably because I am outside London. The CWU say that there are 3 Mcs in London and RM say there are seven. Now I know that London Region of the CWU probably does not include the whole of Greater London and RMs Regional area probably goes outside Greater London but whic MCS are RM counting as London MCs.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
For the record the Officers are in total support of the issue as are some members of the PEC. I suppose the frustration is that not all of the PEC is at the same place and since the National Briefing not all Branch"s have done the work that they should have done. Remember this not just about London , the North East Plan , the RDC plan and the Midlands plan are all underway as are the other changes which Royal Mail want to introduce.
Now Royal Mail are not going to announce that there will be complusory redundancies especially as the ballot papers are going out. What they say they are confident of not achieving this if everyone is flexible . Its all spin as there are not enough jobs for the people who want to stay. Everyone can see that who looks at the numbers but yet those who dont want to see cause they are either hell bent on seeing London workers forced out of a job or have a different agenda will continue to put up arguements like well Royal Mail are not say that CRs will happen or it happening elsewhere or the last agreement was crap etc. The time for excuses have long gone.
TBT Royal Mail have 10 Regions where their management structure is based on. In the London Region there are on 3 mail centres Mount , South and East. These were the only mail centres under review as the others come under different regions, however it helps Royal Mail to say they are only closing 2 out of 7 as in the North East they are closing 6 out of 9. It helps with MPs and it helps with the media. But it is a con.

The only job any MP is interested in protecting is his (or her) own. It is government policy, and indeed Labour policydisheartened wrote:Has the help of the local MP's been sought, surely they must help to keep jobs in their areas.
to privatise Royal Mail. Anyone with half a brain cell knows privatisation = job losses. And any career-minded MP knows that going against party policy is a sure-fire way to close off access to an even fatter salary as a cabinet minister.
No, asking for MPs help is pointless. WE have to fight Royal Mail.

So, as dingo states, as there are not enough jobs to go round, how do people remain in the company?

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
A well made point pickaname and a question I have asked more then a few times. The argument that people want to stay at RM just cannot be sustained. No doubt the workforce of the steel, coal and car industry wanted to remain...........................BUT the work must be there to sustain it surely and if it isn't then what alternative is there.pickaname wrote:So, as dingo states, as there are not enough jobs to go round, how do people remain in the company?
Royal Mail state that they will avoid CRs if at all possible by offering work elsewhere, which I suppose may well include deliveries and/or may include travelling which for someone who wishes to stay with the company is surely an acceptable compromise and one which has been faced at MCs across the land.
I have read on this forum of people travelling 30 miles a day to work and back and that is without recompense, whereas any move on relocation is paid for and there has, I believe, been the offer of crew buses to ferry workers in and out. Perhaps a spot of gardening leave........................

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
I am not a Union Member and am 30hr part time.. (Devil Incarnate maybe) .. but I will not cross a picket linecharlie1 wrote:Hi dvbuk55, I appreciate the different splits of part and full timers in some offices. Could it not be left to the local reps to decide and agree a maximum amount of hours for each of the part timers, so not to negate any action taken by full timers??
As for non union members picking up any extra hours that is the risk with any kind of IA, but we must hope most would see the wider picture. My office didnt achieve a yes vote last time, but the strike was still supported 100% and that includes all the non union members as well.
This was just a suggestion as part timers often get a rough deal. Also if we do ballot of any kind maybe it could increase the chances of a yes vote. Many in my office are wary because of what went on last time and unlikely to vote for all out IA.

Not been on here for a few weeks and was just reading through this thread, dingo wrote:So Mail monkey do you think we are better without an agreement ? Do you really believe this ? Royal Mail believe there is no fight left in the CWU , maybe they are right but do you really believe that Royal Mail will not be rubbing their hands in joy that they have at long last got a workforce which wont resist their plans and will not stand up for itself.
Now I know the members I speak to and have meetings dont want a strike but they also know if they show any weakness to Royal Mail then Royal Mail will attack them like never before. You really think if the BTA agreement was not reached that you would be having a better time now ?
do you think we are better without an agreement ? Do you really believe this ?
YES I DO! This agreement looked like a peice of s**t the first time i saw it and time has not changed my mind on that.
Why is their no fight left in the CWU dingo? We have been balloted for 2 national strikes in the last 5 years we deliverd 2 yes votes....could it be that the members feel let down, even betrayed by the outcome of those strikes?
