A very good and correct post randompostman
Not having compulsary redundancies was not a promise. RM keep saying they are doing all they can to avoid them, in the eyes of the law i dont think we have a case for striking over them.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
I just wonder if the location had been different, would there have been some justification by HQ for the wording of the agreement which clearly is not a no redundancies clause.........................who knows. The preference exercise which has been suggested was carried out in other areas without a problem.................or at least without any action.Edward Hunter wrote:A very good and correct post randompostmanNot having compulsary redundancies was not a promise. I'll let you into a secret Daz,there is NO 1st,2nd,dsa or mailsort in a D.O. and this applies to packets as well.
Everything that comes in that day should go out that day.
Anything less is a quality failure.
If the level of service was what it was supposed to be you wouldn't need to prioritise anything.
agree totally....mail being left...packets being left...crap service from whay i first joined

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
Your right that Royal Mail have said they will move the first 3 collections from E1 as from next week by executive action as from next Monday but East London is not due for to have all their work phased out until next March.
Of course London is balloting for strike action again as we have no choice as we face compulsory redundnacies. The sad thing is that our members after 2009 do not expect any support from the National Membership or indeed the national union. We will fight Royal Mail`s plans to make complusory redundancies and we may lose or we may stop it but it will be us and some others who fight. You can all stand by and watch good loyal people who dont deserve to be made complsuory redundant by Royal Mail.
We balloting but we know in our hearts this dispute is not going to be resolved by legal industrial action but something much more serious. We know that some talk a good fight and moan to the cows come home about everything and anything and this is not just directed at people on this site but others who are active in the union and should stop talking the talk and start walking the walk.
London Mail Centre workers are scared and concerned for their futures. Royal Mail plans do not cater for them , yes people can moan about the last agreement , the previous agreement , PBS , the way forward etc. But it dont change the fact that some indivduals who want to stay in Royal Mail will be told to leave.
Now personally and I know I speak for many in London if this was happening in York , Glasgow , Liverpool , Stoke , Nottingham , Kent , Essex , Bristol , Plymouth , Belfast or anywhere else I would do my upmost to get the members in London to support the fight in those places. Afterall London has been out unofficially loads of times in the past where we have not touched the work of others who have been out on strike.
However all we get when the it happens in London is a hundred and one different excuses on why the rest of the country can support workers in London who are faced with complusory redunancies and transfers and bullying. Again I am not refering to just people on this site.
London members will fight on as we have no choice but remember every line in the sand you decide to back away from means that Royal Mail become stronger and they then see that they have a workforce which is built on the principle of unity not being united enough to oppose the ultimate sanction complusory redundnacies. If they get away with that anywhere do you really think that will be the end or that they will believe they have a green light to do anything they want knowing that the workforce have no bottle or courage for a fight over anyones future.
Rant over but after meeting with members in every workplace 24 hours on every shift I feel that needs to be siad on thsi site but I will be saying it at briefings and conference. Time to wake up. It may be London now but it will be you next as sure as night becomes day.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
dingo, i hear your call.
the thing is that we are all getting shafted one way or another but where are our ballot papers?
somebody has compared "working in delivery to doing a stint inside" on here this eve and the worst thing is that its correct.
why arent HQ listing the many breaches inc, CS, weight not off shoulder, unacheivable delivery spans, redundancies, B&H the whole package?

Dingo, you seem to be a little frustrated does this come am guessing from a lack of support from the cwu hierachy or your members in general or a combination of both.

Dingo, am I correct in thinking that the fight you have on in London is not being backed by the CWU heirarchy, namely Billy and Dave Ward and the NEC.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
Judging from the tenor of your post dingo, it would appear that the National union has declined to call a national ballot, considering the speed of the modernisation plans, if the work is to be moved from Monday. As I understand it there has to be a 90 day notification period for compulsory redundancies and presumably that has not yet happened and really could not happen until a preference exercise had been carried out to decide who is to go and who is to stay. There have been MC closures since 2009 and the line in the sand has been redrawn more times than Little Richards comebacks, and not I might add at the behest of the workforce who DO have the will to fight but have been let down too many times to back anything but a winnable situation with a leadership who are also willing to fight.dingo wrote:Your right that Royal Mail have said they will move the first 3 collections from E1 as from next week by executive action as from next Monday but East London is not due for to have all their work phased out until next March.

The situation is such that someone must have known this was coming and refused to open their eyes to what was an inevitability sooner or later because the workforce had to be reduced under the 2010 agreement, everyone knew that but assumed it would be someone else. On active service you always think it will be the bloke next to you and 9 times out of ten it is, but on that odd occasion................................

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
As you are well aware dingo...the decision on whether or not to support London will not,in the main be made at membership level....in 2009 many offices requested ballots only to be stonewalled by Branch.
Luckily ours wasn't one although we were made to ballot twice.
There is far too much petty playground politics in this union that i'm afraid will again get in the way of any real coordinated action...i wish you and your members the best of luck and when the call comes we will support London because despite our differences...i do not believe that a union should leave any of it's members isolated.

Re: Big call for the Postal Executive
Very true ft 17 days action for us in 2009 only after going direct to Hq ourselves did we get the ballot no support whatsoever from local Branch officials or your nearest offices this leads to members feeling let down, unrepresented and ultimately looking after own interests and when the call comes.............................fishtank wrote:As you are well aware dingo...the decision on whether or not to support London will not,in the main be made at membership level....in 2009 many offices requested ballots only to be stonewalled by Branch.
