We aren’t allowed a union rep but we have an area rep who passes the info and we are to refuse the new arrangements while he refuses to speak to our manager.
We are to tell the manager that on Saturday we would like to deliver our usual duties.
On any other day we would be expected to clear anything in the office if under our time.
If only the parcels have been sorted and we are instructed to go out, can we refuse and ask for the letters and packets to be included in our duty and what if he refuses we can’t just go home after delivering our own the parcels.
Thanks

Surely you would be leaving yourself open to be Interviewed for failing to follow reasonable instruction if you refuse

No because no letters are being sent to your unit, you are only getting packets and parcels. If you get back early you will be instructed to put in next weeks d2ds and to clean your van. If you refuse you will be disciplined.

You can ask for the letters but you may have a long walk as they will still be in the Mail Centres as they won't be sending them. The plan is for no CSS machines being run on Saturday morning.

Our line manager, who is an ex-postie & union rep, told us today that if all posties had not signed up to use their own cars, this would have never come in?
How's that work?

According to the management PowerPoint slides there will be letters to be prepped and on another slide it reads
Plan for outdoor if capacity allows deliver some letters and large letters.
This week all staff due in will be in because we have already had a any off this week but next Saturday if I’m asked not to come in and my day off is Thursday, what happens?

It doesn't, on a Saturday only parcels will be delivered so no one would use their car anyway. And you can't take mail or parcels in a car anyway. If every van share had gone to split shifts with no cars used this would still have been brought in. It's nothing to do with people using cars even if that is making life easier for royal mail and managers at the moment

There may be a few manual letters to prep but all of the Mailsort/DSA letters which are normally sequenced on the CSS will not be available until Monday.

So what the hell are the union doing about this? Seriously Rico is taking the p*** out of our union and they just roll over and let him. RM don't even bother consulting the union about these massive changes to service and how it affects its staff. Throughout this pandemic the union have quite frankly been a joke, absolutely no backbone at all, just sitting back and watching Rico and his minions put their staff at risk and now putting our jobs at risk.

The unions response has been nothing short of a disgrace on this. They put out a post on Facebook yesterday telling members to ignore any plans managers tell them to do and have went silent since. What happens when we refuse to do these changes?! Conducted or suspended would be my guess. Why are the union hanging their members out to dry like this?!!

Its understandable reading the concern, anger and downright panic in these posts at such a challenging time.

(After the 28days notice) Come in whenever the screws tell you, do whatever the screws tell you.....

Now the important bit, work at a 'steady and resonable pace', do not rush, do not panic and most importantly do not fall into the trap of feeling pressured to complete the 'unachievable workload' you screw has given you.

Follow the over running procedure whenever needed (everyday). Do not fall into the trap of 'yes but tomorrow im going to have all the mail I brought back and the next days' idea of thinking. This is managements problem, this is managements idea, this is managements deluded work plan, it is NOT the postmans problem.

So the next day...... revert to sentance 2 and carry on.

Rico is calling their bluff on strike action vote because he can see how weak our union top brass actually are. The union should be telling Rico that if he wants to bypass them and therefore the workforce with massive changes to our delivery practices, then we will strike. This is totally unacceptable that RM are pushing through such massive changes to delivery and not one consultation with its members. I cannot believe the union have been so weak in the last few months, are all the union top brass hiding in bunkers until the pandemic passes?

Because they can. an in my own opinion they are hoping most do's will walk out unoffically.

I wouldn't put it past RM to not do any mech at all on a Friday and have the mech staff on packets and Tracked. Running the outward both 1C and 2C outward mech together on Saturday and run the sequencing (I suspect more likely walk sort only) on the Sunday

Luckily for me it’s my weekend off, but none of us have worked at the DO before so we will be working blind as there won’t be any training on the rounds. Not looking forward to it at all.
Just go in equipped with the new mindset - work your time and don’t stress.

Alternatively don’t comply as per union advice and pray you don’t get suspended.
