Using personal car to carry mail

It's not really about being caught it's whether you have the self-respect to stand up for yourself and say no. It's your car and if Royal Mail want to lease it at least have the courage to bill them.

Next time a manager suggests it ask for their car keys.. .

On a slightly different note I was told to report to a different office on my day off, I said ok but they'd have to get me there, I insisted that this was my dedicated office, after a bit of arguing with the manager they got me there by taxi, it cost £20 each way after I'd tipped the driver, anyway they've never asked me again so stick to guns don't let management bully you into using your car for there benefit.

This topic goes well with my changeover post which I will slightly amend...

Note to screws looking in, Bob or Jane goes out in a van car without training and the proper paperwork filed.And decides to load the car up with s**t.
Bob or Jane has a bad day and either kills or seriously injures someone.


HSE Car insurance peeps gets involved and the HSE car insurance dude is a stickler for crossing the T's and dotting the I's (Isn't that all of them?)
Finds the s**t and it all hits the fan.

Bob or Jane banned fron driving due to not having the correct insurance, car impounded.

Screw out of a job, screws's lacky out of a job, and possible corporate manslaughter charges bought up to him/her or the business.(Not 100% that a div manager can be brought up, but you never know)

Figures for the year ending June 2020 show:

there were 1,580 reported road deaths, a decrease of 14% compared to the previous year
there were 131,220 casualties of all severities, a decrease of 16%
the reduction in casualties is broadly in line with the fall in motor vehicle traffic of 14% over the same period

The doom mongers keep saying “wait til something happens then the s**t’ll hit the fan”, but bearing in mind this practice has been going on in most delivery offices for at least a year has anything actually happened ie: mail being nicked etc etc?. Maybe criminals have moved on from nicking a bag of D2D and Chinese tat from a car. Oh and before anyone says it - no I don’t use my car, no need I’ve got a van every day.

Exactly. This goes on in my office ever since coronavirus hit and there aren't enough vans to go around.

All the doom mongers are generally the privileged ones who always have a van often with their own walk.

Back to reality: the rest of us have to make difficult choices.

Am I allowed to use my personal car to carry mail? It keeps being suggested to me that I could stay out longer if I store some of the mail in my personal car. I didn't think it was legal to do that because of my car insurance. What is Royal Mail policy? I'm a temporary contract worker.

In a word, No. If you did you'd be very very silly.

What choice ? start time - finish time. Equipment (including vans) need to be provided.
Otherwise its like everything else ... leave packets unattended, its great.... until the time someone reports they didnt get it.
Using own car... its great until you get into an accident that requires reporting, then watch the managers claim how they had "no idea" you were doing this.
But keep rolling the dice.... I hope you do have a plan if your luck runs out.

At the end of the day all you can do is give people the information. What they do with it is up to them ! They're all adults and have to live by their (informed) choices

I went for a job the other day at Asda, had the interview and the gal said to me, great you've got the job but I forgot to tell you, you have to bring your own till cause we're cost cutting and f***ing everything up so can you help out?

I went for a job at a well known High Street bank.
They were advertising for someone to replenish the cash machines in the area.
Great pay rate but you had to use your own money to fill the cash machines up.
I'm still considering it.
