Doesn't sound sensible to me. Two people at one frame. The one on the left has a letter for the right hand side of the frame, does he slide in front of the other, or skip around his back?DGH wrote: It's fairly sensible so long as the fittings are big enough to allow two people to work alongside each other after the IPS finishes. It also has the merit of people on double preps not having to change fittings.
Our van share frames are opposite each other. The double prepper just has to turn around 180 degrees to do the other frame. If the other person comes in, he can prep that frame unhindered. Two people can do redirections simultaneously, and bundle up and pack bags. How could they do that with one frame?

2. We lose paid breaks, via £1.50 sweetener and a vote, which will be voted in with %80 just wanting to count those pennies, justifying it by saying they were just doing what the union recommended. (Supporting the union). I feel sick just thinking about it.

Its pretty easy to prep a large frame with two people. You just do half each and as you say, slide anything for the other half across - exactly as you would do when double prepping two frames. One person can do the redirections while the driver fetches the van and specials, etc. Bagging up really isnt any harder as you just tie up your own halves (don't have the frame run straight across a row, have a divider in the middle - essentially two frames with only one wing each).NewPostieUK wrote:Doesn't sound sensible to me. I agree, the frames need to be large and, ideally, single slotted. As RM as simply trying to save money short term by consolidating offices/moving offices to cheaper premises they'll provide smaller double slotted frames which will be a nightmare.

The whole idea is to save space and merge as many offices as they can to save money its happening all over London and i am sure it the same across the country. Our comfort means nothing to them health and safety go out of the window when it suits them.DGH wrote:Its pretty easy to prep a large frame with two people. You're talking about what's known as a Base and 6.
So, it's one base with three wings on each side. Ends up looking like a big C shape if you look down on it.
Blackpool DO have them, as do various others.
You lose space up top to store parcels, no room for door to door storage and overall, take a while to get used to. They still run as if you have two separate walks, so the person doing the prep isn't having to work for ages on the top row and suffer arm ache. The split may or may not be exactly in the centre of the frame though.
Does rely heavily on double slots though, and being a little geeky, that would make a maximum of 1440 delivery points per walk pairing. In reality, their is a maximum amount a frame can be used for double slots, so you should never see a frame which comprises completely of double slots as it creates more chance for error and less space for the money making D2D items.
The most common reason for these being introduced is not to make people more efficient, rather than reduce the amount of space being taken up by frames within an office to allow another office to move in.
If you have a strong unit rep not afraid to stand their ground and challenge the practicalities of a Base and 6, it is possible to reverse the thinking and use of such methods, especially when they can tie it in with facts and figures which demonstrate the physical impossibility of such an idea (as in, when the combined number of delivery points on two walks is a number bigger than the amount that can physically fit in a frame).
They are not great, they are not terrible. They can work if they are deployed in a sensible well thought out and organised manner.
As with most things in this company, they will invariably not be deployed in a sensible well thought out manner.

I hadn't heard of this before until this post. I would guess it mainly concerns DO where there are more P&L walks. Does ring true that is not do to with time savings but space saving when combining offices.
Best defense against this happening in your DO is to follow the rules and 739 any parcels etc when people are not in. This will then show that your DO is needed to enable 'recipients' to collect their mail from their local DO rather than travel maybe a twenty mile round trip.

I can tell you my post has nothing to do with any allegiance to the mancs. being a Geordie I have no interest in that lot other than seeing them get beat.!! it was just a quip to the Stretford end capacity, which used to be about 20,000.JKSmudge wrote:huh ?- loads of people weeping and moaning 'we used to be contenders' ?daveyeff wrote:one of my frames already looks like the ''Stretford end' at Man U. what the feck are they thinking about.?

Suppose this could work on a rural duties where there are something like 200 calls and slots the size of an encyclopaedia
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
