Serious reply..
Unless you've left a .739 (notice left).... and you know for a fact you have lost a recorded... then why would you dream of reporting it??
It's carried as normal mail.. It's therefore at the vagaries of the entire mail system.. and if it isn't delivered.. the obvious answer is.. because it never got to you!
Aint a reason to not deliver them, but it's a get-out clause for those occasions where you do happen to lose an item.
Flagging it up to a Gaffer, who may be looking at staff reductions is stupid... if they're going to fire you for losing a RD, they will... but telling them is daft... at least protect your back and let the system deal with it, as a normal item of mail, even Recorded Deliveries aren't counted as lost until after 21 days in the system without delivery...
In the meantime.. others have come in and done your delivery on your day off... see my point! (don't work your day off in the meantime!)

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I believe honesty is always the best policy. Regardless of the useless tw*** running RM (into the ground), I may become unemployed if my honesty results in the managers getting hold of something that they can use against me, but at least I can sleep at night. Obviously our beloved leaders sleep like babies as they have no conscience, unlike us. Remember, just because they lie, steal and deceive that is no reason to copy them.

Perhaps stupid is the wrong word, naive may have been better. But I know where you are coming from Harry.Homo Harry wrote:Serious reply..

Before I worked for RM I would have said to anyone always be honest you will be ok, but RM seem unable to act on an individual incidents own merit. They always, whatever the situation, follow their own regulations as though they came down from the Mount. Inflexible is a word I hear a lot when people talk or comment about RM procedures.

I lost a recorded letter a few years ago. Attempted delivery, left a 739 card and put it in the pouch.
When I got back into the office it wasn't there. Went back to look for it. Tried the houses on each side of the householder.
Tried the bag drop place. No joy.
The householder was fine about it. It was only a update from an overseas estate agent that he got
every month so he didn't care.
I still got put on a stage one warning though.
