Late Parcel Delivery Service 3.30pm to 7.30pm
Hi everyone! I got given the application form for this afternoon delivery today and there is 4 boxes u can tick if your interested, one is increasing your contracted hours (part timers), scheduled attendance, SA on sat only and other. Would someone explain the difference between SA and increase in contracted hours, I’m new ish and don’t understand. Would any increase only be temporarily? If so, till when? Thank you, Jacko

An increase in your contracted hours would mean you get that amount of pay when you are on holiday and on sick.
SA is a "guaranteed overtime rate" which is higher than the regular overtime rate but might not be as high as your SSPR rate if you are part time.
You still get paid SA while on holiday.
They could in theory remove your SA at any time with the appropriate advance warning but it is unlikely you will ever see your contracted hours reduced.

Just wondering why an increase in contracted hours is even an option as DOM said this is only for Xmas (or is he wrong?) Jackoclashcityrocker wrote:An increase in your contracted hours would mean you get that amount of pay when you are on holiday and on sick.

I don't know, you will have to ask him/her if the increase in contracted hours is temporary or permanent.
When are they planning to introduce this?
Does it include LAT packets?

As said above it is also a way of management getting guaranteed cover for cut offs. Not meant to be used in that way, but in practice it is a way of wringing the life out of you hours wise. Yesterday I worked with said LAT person, they ended up being on duty from just after 8 until 6 o'clock at night, they were given 2 hours cut off to do on return when meant to be LAT parcels, and not happy. Once again with Royal Mail, be careful what you sign up for.

You've got the ace card, they're probably expecting you to take it and not expecting you to query it or ask for the terms and conditions etc.

Don’t like the sound of that!! Don’t want to be coming back to everyone’s lapsing that they couldn’t complete!!redneck wrote:As said above it is also a way of management getting guaranteed cover for cut offs. Yes that’s true! They were a bit blasé about it all so it’s making me question it! I wouldn’t mind doing one afternoon a week or something to make my hours up but Need more info!Mobey wrote:You've got the ace card, they're probably expecting you to take it and not expecting you to query it or ask for the terms and conditions etc.

I do this from 3 til 7. if there are enough LAT packets then that's all i do, but if there is say only 1 then basically it is doing cut offs til 7. One day I had none and did 2 and a bit walks.
For me though full time hours are what i want/need so i'm happy. But it is getting darker and darker earlier so makes it harder to find houses etc .. and with Christmas coming it is about to get a LOT busier.

Just sounds like another RM excuse to deliver later by Stealth. If I signed up to drive around and deliver Parcels I wouldn't be too impressed if they asked me to take out a Failed Delivery, in fact I think my recurring back pain would flare up and I'd need to go home

If the LAT really takes off then you could well see deliveries going out later anyway. It's not known if any RDCs will hold back any runs to MCs when phase 2 of LAT starts (when is phase 2 due to start?)
