Ello for a start, welcome, Can i just say i read your posts and in your last you say that "the union" and "the unions backing"

????????? WE ARE THE UNION, ALL OF US.. Now i might be preaching to the converted but in your words it sounds you take CWU HQ as something that is seperate to US in the CWU??? Tell me if im wrong??? I feel if we all do our bit in the CWU then a local rep is as powerful as a area rep or Dave Ward or any of em!!!! Lets look after our own back yards 1st,, Let the HQ listen to us for a change, And this goes for all D.O.'s and M.C.'s anywhere a CWU member works... Have our say.. It is hard when a rep seems to b in the pocket of a screw, As we had in my office not to long ago.. As the w****r stood down... Bout time as well... And last time i heard is going screw him self now.....

So in your office You are pissed off with the way your all being treated? You dont want to work in this inviroment??? U are being shafted , YES??

Well fight back, fight em with the rules,, RULES in the IR framework that CWU AND RM layed out... You dont have to fight any one or be outcast.. Just do as the boys and Girls of Burslem AND Longton... And now others around the country... DONT WORK FOR NOTHING, WORK TO YOUR 318's... DONT USE CARS, USE THE VANS THAT SHOULD BE PUT IN PLACE OR TIME FOR TRANSPORT/ PUBLIC. AND BE PAID BACK TRAVELING.. HAVE BAG DROPS FOR EVERY BAG. EVEN IF NO DROP POINT. PUT IT BACK ON THE SCREWS... THEY WANT RULES. WE PLAY BUY THEM!!! WATCH THEM SQUIRM THEN...PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING MATE.. It works in other offices why not yours or mine???
TOGETHERNESS!!! It only needs a good few to start this, people with balls... Not whimps that wil buckle down and be a screws bitch..
They love us fighting amongst ourselves.. JOB DONE FOR THEM!!! Will we ever learn???????????????????????????????????????????????????

OUT

DONT COME IN EARLY AND GIVE UP YOUR TIME, £££££ AND JOB FOR THESE PARASITES!!!

Meweavy! If it helps to persuade you I can tell you that you don't need to answer to anyone in the union except your own members. I've seen it 1st hand and our reps don't answer to area, Div or National Reps they are there to do our bidding not the other way around. At the moment our branch is having quite a big turn around for the better so it's not to much of a problem now though. :Applause :Applause

re: DIfferent ways of measuring volume

Post by F0zziebear »

Hi,

Just read this thread. There are a couple of ways to measure volume:

1. Revenues. With the top 100 companies accounting for so much traffic it is possible to get a good idea of volume from this, and in theory it's fall to ground from their databases.

2. Mail Characteristics Survey. Royal Mail spend millions per year getting an external research agency to ask customers what comes thorugh their letter-boxes. This is used to inform us about volumes

3. Mail is weighed when it comes into a D.O and it should be possible to add this information up (as it is fed into a central system everyday).

I was led to believe for a number of eyars that volumes were going down, especially in the 'social' mail sector. The only area I was led to believe that was growing was the government sector, and this was on the back of increased investment.

Yet time and time again posties say that the volume hitting them is increasing. The two sources of information do not seem to add up. So something is happening. Is it possible that the weight of an item has increased, which leads to a perceived increase in volume? I honestly don't know, and with rounds getting re-distributed it is not so easy to compare a round over an extended period of time.

It is possible with Downstram access (for example) that costs have come down marginally for businesses and they are now sending more volume, but I am not convinced that they are sending out more.

I reckon it is safe to say that packages have increased over the last 10 years as the internet and online shopping has taken off.

Again email crispin.beale@royalmail.com or email ask.allan@royalmail.com and put the question to them and see what they come back with.

My personal experience is not one of mgmt trying to screw over frontline people over things such as volume, but I can only talk from personal experience.

It's all done at the Mail Centres now and that is the figures that count,it's also still weighed at the DO's but not sure what happens to theses figures,i think they are used as toilet paper.

It seems that since it's being weighed up town the figures have gone down.

Put it this way SE1 'Mandella way',the biggest office in SE London had LESS weight than the SE9 'Eltham' office at one time

Cooking the books a speciality of RM comes to new heights.
FOzz,i think things have certainly changed since you were last with us.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
