Corrupt Reps...
Many members decry reps. Some psychology is required in dealing with managers and this is often construed as cosying up.
Many members throughout their working career use or see the benefits of a rep, to save their jobs in many cases.
Many also have short memories and reps are expected to pull rabbits out of a hat at their whim.
If reps cannot or do not dance to a members particular tune they are vilified.
It is really a thankless job, they often take a lot of flack undeservedly. Most try their utmost but it’s hard to take up many issues with management when so many members fuel the fire against the reps. They by their own actions cause most problems. ( like early starters, n runners causing workload problems that inflict on other members, hence grief )
Many members personal problems go un noticed and when solved they go unappreciated by others.
Yeh, shoot the messenger. Hence the reason many units have NO reps, big mouths in units are usually not prepared to step forward to take on the challenge. Far easier to carp and moan in the background. They are often the most spineless as well!

You already know what the answer to this question is going to be. You have to select a new Office Rep. Whatever that process is.... I believe you have to have a vote of "No Confidence".
Then comes the problem. Someone else is going to have to do the job!
Fine if someone in the DO is up for it, and they're going to make a better job of it (no use replacing one Arse Licker with another)
Would you want the job?
In the past I've been approached to stand for Office Rep but TBH I can do without the stress.
Thanks to RMC I've found out most of what I need to know to be able to confront Incompetent Managers with FACTs about what they can, and can't, ask me to do. I have little use for the Office Rep (although I don't undermine him and offer support when required). I find approaching the Area Rep for any help is much more successful. I wouldn't mind being a Rep if you just had to deal with "Proper" disagreements, but when you end up having idiots complaining to all the time (you know those people, every office has them) about minor problems like someone keeps parking in "Their" parking bay, they keep getting Dog Shite on their LWT wheels or the LWT keeps blowing over when there's no mail in it! (All true complaints from one Postie in my DO) I can do without the hassle.

Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

It is no wonder that this union struggles to get Rep's let alone keep them with the type of abuse being dealt out on here. Just think how bad it must be in a delivery office.

Although we allow Free Speech on here, which means some criticism is unavoidable, I think that if you have a poor rep you have choices. Some solutions require action and a bit of bravery from the people doing the criticising. If you recognise changes are required ..............

Very true. But if nobody is willing to take the Reps place after the 'coup', what else is there? A few in my office have suggested a mass, although it is only about 20, coming out of the union to see if anything happens.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Although we allow Free Speech on here, which means some criticism is unavoidable, I think that if you have a poor rep you have choices. It won't. If you leave the Union then you are no longer a member and the Union can't help. They'll be concerned, or perhaps a little worried but that will be about it.wookie wrote:Very true. Everyone, in every situation, has a choice. If you act there are consequences, if you don't there are consequences. You have to live with the choice you make.

So if the unit leaves the union in block, what’s going to happen ?wookie wrote:Very true. But if nobody is willing to take the Reps place after the 'coup', what else is there? Apart from the DOM rubbing his hands in glee, all others will be left to the dogs.
DOM shouts “jump”, you are not high enough, bye !
It’s incredible to think things would be for the better, be careful! Beware of things improving with no recognition or union back up. It would be a dream for RM a massive backward step and you would probably regret the decision very quickly.

Spot on. Sounds like our unit where everyone expects the rep to be their own private counsellor to sort out every problem going and if he doesn’t then he’s a useless w****r only in the position for his own benefit. Yet I have asked people why they don’t stand for the position and you get the usual bluster -“ I’m too opinionated I’d be out of a job within days” or “I’d have everyone out on strike most days” etc etc. Amazing really the way people are.

Im talking about reps that cream all the money, and put in hours for fake/unnecessary overtime, and then dish out or make plans with managers for you as the posties to do absorption based on the office budget!! What do you do about that when you discuss it with an area rep & he turns a blind eye... all these union bods are in it together, its scratch my back & ill scracth yours.
Our union rep doesnt even do a walk, some days his on his way home at 11am and has the cheek to moan if we finish before 2pm. Then creates the “absorption” plan ive previously spoke of.

oh dear union reps are rubbish, politicians rubbish, next door neighbour rubbish and so on. What a shame all these people who have the guts to come on here (anonymous of course) and slag off unpaid volunteers instead of those guts to challenge all the wrongs in their office. Yes leave the union that will fix it then RM will be your best friend and give you pay rises extra time for deliveries extra holidays and the big bad union will be banished, what a great idea

unpaid? you might want to check a thing called a union grant my friend!! and all the extras that come with it, sorting themselves out. Don't worry Spili ive challenged my rep, I definitely don't hide in the dark. Also what deals do you believe the union have done good... tell me is it the door2door one, where everybody even if you dont do deliveries gets paid £20+ when we used to be able to make £70-80+ or the pension to sort themselves out, as they would have suffered having half their monies taken, due to them being a RM a lengthy time?

It is easy to slag off all Union reps but if it was'nt for our's I along with a few others would not have a full time contract.

You can't even interpret the agreements correctly despite your assumption about D2Ds being addressed many times on here. If you claim reps are corrupt then you yourself have to be cleaner and better informed than them. So far you are failing.jaydotz90 wrote:unpaid? you might want to check a thing called a union grant my friend!! and all the extras that come with it, sorting themselves out.
