No but I would have expected a better handling of the "Red Snow Warning" issue while the vote was going on.

I expect absolutely zero change in culture from Dom's and line managers across the country.

We will still continue to see industrial action in many delivery offices throughout the coming year.

With the first wave of ballots/strikes starting in Scotland over the severe weather we've just had and that payback of hours some RM managers are requesting.
CUT OFF!!!

Experience has taught us to expect nothing with regards to bullying and harassment either from Royal Mail or the CWU. I doubt we'll be disappointed.

Are we really so gullible as to believe that the culture in Royal Mail is driven by two or three individuals?

fishtank wrote:Another senior management reshuffle does not translate to a change in culture way down at the level we work at. Maybe it will make the tea and biscuits more amicable when the Divi reps meet these people but most of us couldn't pick Anton Harding out of a line up. We've been here before many times, senior managers make the right noises, operations directors turn the screw, delivery office managers fold like cheap suits and revert to form.

Or are you telling us that the two invisible directors Mr Budget and Ms Cost aren't running the business anymore because I could do with a good laugh tonight.
I go along with your views, unfortunately. Far too much back slapping and cordial chit chat with no substance.
Divisional reps have gradually lost touch with the general membership and have failed to see and address the everyday problems the members endure. There is a feeling of apathy and mistrust among members, well warranted. Your mention of tea and biscuits, maybe a nice buffet is funny, although with a strong element of truth. For too long we have cosied up to Area level managers, who promise a lot in the way of change or interest in looking into problems brought to their attentions. They fall onto back burner somewhere only to be forgotten and remain unsolved and unchallenged by our divisional reps. Nothing changes with an intransigent management who only pretend they are interested in local problems. Talk is really cheap at those meetings, more like friendly get togethers and seldom resolve anything of substance.
The fact is RM operate a management style where local managers no longer have any power or discretion to make any decisions, they are victims of RMs mushroom management, they are kept in the dark and fed s..t.
Change ? Not for the better of most members in the future, more of the same and a then some more.

You know what they say. No time like the present. :whistle
We could always wait for another stunning LTB from the outdoor department with Joint statement at the top and f**k all else in it.
Also YOU was the one who started this thread of HAS THE CULTURE CHANGE STARTED. It would appear you've answered your own question. That would be NO. As it will be this time next year.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

The culture is not going to change while management get a pay bonus dependent upon their depot figures, Sherlock is not required to figure that one out.

Sorry I thought you were refering to the "change of culture " announced in 2010 . The new spirit of cooperation mutual respect and trust working for a bright future etc.
IT died a death ,management bullying off the scale ,abuse of process ,lack of union support off the scale.
Tell me why it will be different this time, please .

Virtually every DOM I have ever encountered has been woefully incompetent.
They cannot manage, Full stop.
There can be no culture change until we have professional managers and not the pathetic shower of s**t we currently have to endure.

I don't know why I bothered putting virtually in the first sentence.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I know a manager of 30 years who has freely admitted to me that he's been hiding out in Royal Mail for the last 25 years fully expecting to be "found out" every day. He says he tried to make a difference when he started but soon realised that this business was not the place for free thinkers and decided to game the system. He's been promoted 3 times in those 25 years without even trying.

There simply is no management accountability in Royal Mail, if you screw up really really badly you might get moved sideways to another office/role but other than that what deterrent is there for the ego maniacal bully boy?

I think our staff should have a vote on whether we should keep our current Dom or not.

I would predict a 90 per cent yes vote based on a 5 per cent turn out.

Truth is our Dom has failed in terms of staff sickness, the office budget, customer complaints and 1st time delivery but like the cat with nine lives, gets to keep their job. Same can't be said for the area/sector management role though....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Managers still covering for others and down playing things when it's a complaint against management. :no no
Ain't that the truth. They all p!ss in the same pot so it wouldn't be look good if a manager actually ruled against another manager. All investigation into B&H and even grievances need moving out of royal mail managers hands and done independently. The police don't investigate their own.

No but I would have expected a better handling of the "Red Snow Warning" issue while the vote was going on.
What "red snow warning"? The way our managers went about it there wasn't any snow. Numerous falls, slips, trips, broken bones and torn ligaments later they were STILL trying to force staff out on to delivery the very next day. Oh and one of them stupidly admitted to a "divide and conquer" strategy by pressurising the weaker ones out to break the office and get the rest to follow whilst ensuring they were still going to hit the £3000 bonus payout. :arrrghhh

So to answer Dingo's question: No sod all has changed and in fact it's gotten worse this week with unpaid overtime, staff hurried and harassed at every possible opportunity to work faster and take more. Pressure put on those on sick to ignore doctors sick notes and come in on "light duties" with the usual royal mail management medical qualification drivel.

To put it another way the CWU should never have let it get this bad Dingo in the first place. Staff reported issues, office reps tried their damnedest to sort them out but was either failed by area or above or royal mail management stalled the process till it just went dead or always ruled against staff in-favour of their own kind. We now have a situation were staff now know its pointless putting in a complaint because it'll never go anywhere other than stress and frustration.

The Met Office issued 'red weather warnings' both in Scotland and Devon/Cornwall during the recent snowy weather. I think this warning was either unprecedented or hadn't happened for many years. DOMs have to do their own assessment as well but they should have taken serious notice of any 'red' warnings in their area as well.

For "In order to successfully meet the needs of customers" read "In order to maximise profit for shareholders". :cuppa
"We need to do everything we can – working together" Now, why have they never thought of that before ? :arrrghhh
