Rules are if you think you are not going to be able to deliver everything then you have to speak to your DOM before you go out and say so. It is then their responsibility to either find another postie to deliver it on overtime or deliver it themselves. If you think the walk is too long ask the DOM to come out with you on delivery and time you. If you're doing your best and finishing over duty time then they will have to sort something out to amend the duty length.
Its very common given staff shortages for Postie's to come back after their day off to find either some or even all of the previous days mail waiting for them. Usually it will have been sorted into the frame but you will still have to deliver it. You should be able to ask for one or two hours pay extra if you are delivering yesterday's mail. Its not really enough but its a little compensation.

Regarding being asked to absorption etc when you don't have the time within duty time. Most people on this forum say to make sure you book your extended and don't work for free. Every office is different on this and it sounds like your office is one where you won't be able to book the extended but they will still expect you to do it. I feel for you and agree its a real injustice and it probably is my number one pet hate about working in RM. Unfortunately the new proposal/agreement doesn't fully tackle this issue which doesn't surprise me. With this problem in the worst case scenario 'stuff' can happen. My best advice is on my previous reply - push to have your walk timed to check if it is too long. With any luck it is and something can be done about that. Otherwise frankly you are up **** creek like many others in RM.
