Ok, I understand, thank you. How do you resolve it? It's a huge organisation with a large frontline staff to manage, do the good managers move onwards and upwards until they hit the glass ceiling and find themselves in a position of no influence at the business end and not sufficient sway to influence at the strategic end either? The Peter Principal decrees that Managers progress to a level of incompetence so suggesting that a lot of those that the majority deal with day to day just aren't very good at their job and that perception permeates throughout the business. The same can be said of any organisation.rubberbond wrote:I think you've got the wrong end of the proverbial stick, it's not the job people hate, when we are outside of management contro ( in the main) outside it's a brilliant job, it's all the politicking and constant changing for no good reason ,that a lot of us hate. Remember we get demonised by management, we're all lazy, stupid, thieving etc well a fish rots from the head.loyalsnail wrote:Genuine question, if its so bad at Royal Mail why don't you walk out and get another job? Or failing that (and considering the realities of jobs not being as easy to come by as they once were) start looking and applying such that you can continue working until that new job is secured, then walk away.enskied wrote:They can stick the Xmas Bonus where the sun don't shine. trouble is pressure in theory starts in mid November so we've cleared most of work by 11 Dec another lose lose for usviking1488 wrote:they have to give 2 weeks notice of a strike so that would be week commencing 11th dec right in the middle of xmas pressureweary_posty wrote:So after winning their injunction and holding off strike action for another 7 weeks (Nov 30th), what’s the betting we are offered a lump sum to not strike over Xmas pressure?
I’ll stick a poll up for a bit of fun but as far as I’m concerned they can shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Loyal Snail, you are quite right, when I was a manager, I treated people with respect, always said please and thank you, etc. that is why I got people to do things for me, however that is not what the business wants, oh sure it pays lip service to good relations with its workforce, through initiatives such as "a great place to work" and others just as grating and as patronising like The Courier. How do you change it? You need a complete culture change, professional managers maybe, with proper man management and business acumen ,with a blend of people from the grassroots ,it isn't going to happen though. How many managers are you aware of that have been dismissed or investigated for claims of bullying and harassment, I don't kniw of any. Yet it's endemic in this organisation, I often say it's like prison, they can only run with the cooperation of the prisoners, the only difference is, we go home at night......for now.
