how about a more in depth look at moaning

The workforce is absolutely entitled to moan, in almost any situation there is an alternative that would suit one or a few better; however, it needs to be remembered that 'moaning' is hardly an accurate description of what people are doing now. What we are seeing now is beyond just a little frustraion at a minor annoyance like it used to be (admittedly I can only go back about 7 years), It's not just being a little peeved that were lapsing today so we'll only finish an hour early instead of ninety minutes. It's that we're lapsing today and that'll take you ninety minutes past your finish time instead of "just" an hour.
It's knowing that just to exercise your right to finish at your contracted time you have to go shut yourself in an office with a miserable little DOM, and try and justify why whatever you have going on in YOUR OWN TIME is more important than delivering a few more letters to get him/her out of the self inflicted do do that RM have got themselves in due to their desire to save money.

Let's be honest, we all quite enjoy a little moan about the little unimportant things that can really be over come in a blink of an eye. What we don't enjoy is being so utterly disrespected and destroyed on a daily basis that some can't sleep at night out of sheer fear of what will await them in the morning, and having their performance and ability brought in to question on a daily basis just because we want to go home on time. To RM we are simple wage slaves, and if they could find a way to drop the inconvenient wage part they would.

Now be clear the workforce aren't moaning the workforce is expressing anger, and it is an anger that we will make RM hear. If people aren't prepared to join the fight and weather the storm then perhaps those are the ones who should leave, if you don't like hearing the moaning, perhaps they should be encouraged to join in and fight the fight so everyone can finally get back to moaning about the only things we should have to moan about: Office radio...Hart or Radio 2? and which numbskull switched it to Kiss and has now hidden the remote?

You get dirty looks and digs if you don't want to go over your time. Harassed to do overtime all the time too.
Work load is horrendous. I come home in agony everyday. You need to rush round to get done.
Colleagues have been snappy and on edge. People get moved three times in the morning to different dutys.
Can't be ill either.
Rush round, why you do that? work at your normal speed and if that means you can't complete you bring it back

Morale; What's the level below rock bottom. Echo many of the comments on above posts. Our sick level at the moment is 8 colleagues off, out of a total of around 30. So obviously failure of walks is a daily occurrence. :no no

this well worded piece is spot on,its stand up time,to voice your utter contempt at this company, not just with what's in the agenda but the whole way it's going, back the disenchantment up with a stand against it,no fight to pick? I think we have, those that care about this company certainly do,nip this regime in the bud big time, united we stand!!

That approach has never improved anything, in fact, it probably made things worse as it makes it easier to attack everything that makes doing any job worthwhile.

No change in our DO, boys and girls are finishing deliveries just after noon, they are making couple of hours every day, union is very strong and got the management by the throats. 100 odd delivery staff never had so good , loads of over time.
( most of ghost overtime ).

Your other posts contradicts you, how many have you really got, 100, 55 or 80+, something else next week?
And are you in the RLE?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

On an optomistic note, Hopefully with Brexit and the end of free movement things should improve, They can't keep foisting things on demoralised staff if they want to retain them. May go back to the old day's when they paid supplements to retain staff. Free movement directly correlates with the erosion of conditions and the introduction of part time/zero hour contracts.

You don't seriously believe do you that if Brexit really happens it'll be back to British jobs for British workers like when I were a lad just after the war ?  :cuppa

There's a thousand Delivery Offices across the country so there's going to be a range of responses. TBH I believe it's not so much the Morale of the Office but more so the Morale of the Individual. Within a DO there's probably a lot of Posties who are quite happy with their lot, if you were a cynic you could say it's the "Old Mafia" which exists in most DOs. They've grabbed the best duties over the years and gradually "Trimmed" them to the point they're happy (and normally finishing early). :no no

At the same time there's also a number of duties that are probably too large, and these are often the ones that New Starters, or Part Timers, are stuck on. If you've got a "Good" duty you're happy, if you've got a "Bad" duty you're pissed off. I understand that DOMS often play the "Favourites" game, letting their mates & cronies get away with stuff they pick others up for, but they are Little Men and there's not a lot you can do about them. You must learn to fight your own corner, using agreed terms & conditions, and advice from this forum! :thumbup

I like a moan as well as the next Postie but generally I'm happy with my lot. I've got a few issues that need sorting with my Duty but I've got a long term strategy for that. I take great pleasure at the moment with chatting to some of the newer members and advising them on a few things that may help them i.e The fact that Lapsing & Overtime is not compulsory. I look at this way, "Don't let the Bastards grind you down"! :cuppa

That sounds as good as the 'they need us more than we need them' argument.

I would agree that the morale of the person goes a long way further than the morale of the office

But Royal Mail have forced us to go out in pairs on delivery. This is either a good or not so good thing depending on who your partner is. I used to work as a reserve and I've worked with so many - posties who have a habit of delivering their specials till last minute, posties who habitually get the letters in the wrong order when on delivery, posties who don't mark all their packets - so you end up checking the bags before you do each loop, posties who take forever and a day to do a loop if they think that you have the easier loop etc etc

And I take nothing away with those who grabbed the best duties due to seniority because most of them have gone through the same process. The duties were probably easier back then, but it was still stressful when doing completely different rounds every day in another part of town on your own. We didn't have Sat Nav back then - and I still have the A to Z in my car, so I guess it must be psychological!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Ours isn't actually so bad now. We're way past the point of struggling, the managers have given up because there's no hope of covering the walks so everyone streams as much as they need to get finished on time. Yes it's piss poor by RM and shouldn't be happening, but that's not our fault. :nana

Agree 100% with this.
