If you're full-time, there's just under 8.
No-one can make you work a minute over that, if you don't want to.
Everyone should calm down is my opinion.

Quote from "Working time directive" where you can't [be forced to] work more than 48 hours (unless you opt out) under current EU law.
Overtime
Overtime is normally hours that are worked above the normal full time hours, normal working hours are the hours mentioned in the terms of employment. Overtime can be voluntary or compulsory. Compulsory overtime would form part of the terms and conditions of employer.
There is no legal right to be paid extra for any overtime worked, this may be detailed in the terms of employment.

But our contract as of now doesn't mention not being paid for overtime.
Won't be happening from me, if they try it I'm off.
Maybe this is why they are angling for us to strike?- so they can change the contract??

It does sound like a fancy way of saying being paid for the work that you do rather than the time that it takes you. Big issue with this in RM privatised world which is looking for more and more efficiency. Imagine if Royal Mail decide to get rid of all their Caller's Offices and their staff by doing what other couriers are doing so that we only get paid for items delivered, either by leaving them with neighbours or having them thrown over the back fence....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I doubt very much the RM want to force us to do overtime and stop paying us for it. But I'm not voting NO and leaving it in their capable hands.
In 5 years time, things may be different and I may be quoting this post from another profession.

Where does it actually say no overtime will be paid for going over when 'owning the workload'?
Admittedly the whole issue of ''owning the workload'' is just speculation at the moment, but you're being a little naive If you can't see that this would be the ultimate aim of it.
I just want the facts. Not speculation. Not rumour. Not scaremongering. I'd be naive if I was voting based on guesswork and an irrational loathing of anything management. I'll vote with my head not my emotions. Having said that, my choice will partly be based on the fact there is a plan to increase delivery spans by reducing indoor work through automation. I believe increased delivery spans are just plain wrong and potentially dangerous, certainly in the winter months. I actually agree with a team 'owning the workload', I've often thought we could work an aisle better acting together if everyone got stuck in and worked as a team. Some people just can't agree with anything. They bitch continually about managers pushing them around and oversupervising and yet, when there might an initiative that hands some control over to us they bitch about that as well.
I'd like to think we can let the CWU argue to maintain decent working conditions and argue the toss about changes to the pipeline. They need our support to do that, but we need to be rational and be sure what we are standing up for.

I read on a royal mail shareholders chat board that RM believe that if the Union strike then they have broken an agreement and it will then be void and they can make the changes they want.
The fact Moya Greene and none of the very senior executives are believed to have entered talks seems to add weight to some opinion that RM want a strike.
The share price has also gone up 12p in the last 24 hours despite a strike looming and RM's relegation to the FTSE 250.

This is exactly what most large companies are doing. Ok if you're full-time and have an extra month holiday in summer using up accumulated hours, for the first year it would be great. But for a part-timer it is hell. A part-timer working full-time hours in winter would need six months off in summer to use up their hours. And who would pick up the slack for that. And how many would use all that free time to find a better job. Slippery slope.

This is just a variant of the gig economy. You get paid by the job not how long it takes!!
All it does is offset the risk onto the employee from the employer. Essentially the final delivery aspect becomes a fixed cost.
This really is just the slippery slope to rounds being franchised and zero hour contracts.

They can already break every agreement if they want

All it means is more strikes
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

:arrrghhh :arrrghhh have 2 back.
YES
If Royal Mail don't budge it will be back to work for the majority.
People have bills to pay, rent, mortgages.
So what happens when RM sell off bits of the business.
Will Logisitcs go out for delivery
Mail Centres strike for deliveries.

I think many staff are in for a rude awakening.
Quite a few in my office think the threat of a strike will have RM running to the CWU with better terms.

Lounge Lizzard - answer this question please ?
What if you keep going on strike a day or 2 a week for 3 months and RM don't budge - What then ?
How long would you be prepared to go all out?

Graham,
A day or two a week indefinitely if necessary.
I might assume I couldn't afford to but (a) less earned means less tax, NI and pension deductions so two days off is far less than a 40% reduction in take home pay, (b) I have always lived within my means and have a small sum set aside for the forthcoming 'rainy day' and (c) a new car, holidays, meals out, etc. are luxuries that are worth sacrificing for something like this.
I hope a good proportion of my colleagues across the country think likewise and are in a similar situation. :thumbup
