Missed 1 o'clock delivery

There were rural parts on my duty that I had never done before so he did that part of my duty and I took a part of his duty which was the part that had the special. That's why he signed for it. I think I'll be OK. I have a really good boss and it's a small office so I get on with him good. Not like the larger offices I've worked in where you're just another face.

The first special I ever dealt with was 3 days into my employment.

It isn't a sacking offence. It will be at worst, a coaching issue, assuming you do not have previous for this "offence".

If you are ever late with one again put the sticker or write the number on a while you where out card & get the customer to sign with a real pen next to sticker on card. Put date on card & keep for reference. Been doing this for years if after 1 & nothing ever been said. If no answer don't bother scanning it just return it to office but make sure it is scanned back in to office again never had no comebacks.

Except if customer complains about not getting their 1pm special before 1pm?

as already been said, never ever put them into bundles/pouches, too easy to either post or forget the time, put them in a tub with the log book at back of van so it's the 1st thing you see every time you open the doors, reckon you'll just get a ticking off
it's also not good practice for someone else dealing with your specials either, i'd say the blame lays at their feet

Yeah, I never ever put specials in a bundle. I always put them in a tray even if it's on my first loop. I should've taken it out of the bundle straight after he told me it was in there but I was too preoccupied with sorting parcels for the unfamiliar duty I was on. Totally my fault.

Well, after all that worrying my boss wasn't too bothered about the late delivery. He got it in the neck a bit by his boss but he says he's used to that. Just got advised not to make a habit of it, that's all.

I remember about 4 years ago telling my line manager that I wouldn't get there for 1 O'clock and he said just get the ASAP we'll have to take it on the chin.

He just couldn't be arsed to find someone to get it done in time.

I have a partner that does the same, I put specials in a separate tray in the back of the van so I can keep an eye on them in case I'm running late I can quickly zip off and do them but my partner has a habit of putting them in the bundles when I go to get the PDA's etc, so now I make a note of the specials just in case and put it on the dashboard

Don't do this: I worked with one old timer who insisted on keeping all the specials in the front cab of the van, in the passenger footwell 'so that he'd remember them'.

It was a bit comical - at the start of every loop I'd leave the van with them in a tray in the back of the van - but at the end of every loop there he'd be, sitting in the driver seat with all the specials back in my footwell! Neither of us spoke of it, just kept politely moving them back and forth while the other was absent!

I usually use a yorkie card as described to keep a record of them in the cab. It only takes a few seconds to prepare and saves so much hassle in the day.

As a senior member of our staff, with both delivery experience and callers office, I have two things to say. 1 break off to get to the special delivery point. It is YOUR responsibility to do so. I keep my specials in a tray, separate from the pouches, so I know if I have to get somewhere quick. 2 Check any boxes and or pouches before you finish for the day. Loads of times in our office we have found stuff left in the van or HCT. It not only causes grief with the punters / callers office staff, it could drop you right in it, ie disciplinary procedure. Cover yourself.

Unless I have so few that I can see where everything is, I always write a list of everything I have. It only takes 5 minutes and it can save a lot more if you've driving around doing parcels you forgot to do earlier. Also, any specials that will fit, I always put in the box thing behind the handbrake, or if I have loads of letter/small packet type ones, I just put them in order in a pod in the back.

I've also done the "sorry, the PDA is broken, can you sign on this card" thing when I've been late, but only when I've been late by <15 mins. If the customer is home, there's next to no chance they'll ever complain. Most of the time they wont realise it was timed, or wont care. Obviously it's risky, but it's your word against theirs, and the 3 or 4 times I've ever done this, nothing has happened. Still, I wouldn't recommend doing this.

When i was on lighy duties the cage found a special and it was after 1. So the linos told me to take it and sign using paper

they also said if they are not in put the p739 down has 12.50.

This is so dodgy, and so easy to get caught out and humiliated on YouTube as a cheating postie, now that so many homeowners have cctv. I'd never do that myself, thankfully never been asked to. I don't believe any manager would take the blame if you got caught out while following that instruction.

Doubt you'd get sacked, they may suggest if it happens again then they'll look at training.
I was averaging 25-30% scans on 2D barcodes for weeks I admitted I couldn't be arsed to scan them,eventually they said I'd need retraining if it didn't improve,this was even before we got to conduct. Most offices are so short staffed they can't afford to lose anyone.
