This guy was a thorn in the side for his superiors and there was orders from on very high( Tory Ministers if I remember rightly? ) to get rid of him .
I can remember there was a few cases of "convenientally " getting rid of whistleblowers just before that act came into play.
It's true that most organisations will use the confidence of or damaging reputation charge, and will hope as long as the charge will stick and they followed procedure; they'll be confident that a IT will consider the dismissal fair .
As for the unfortunate Karen Reissemann , that story came out weeks ago in Private Eye , the NHS Trust would regard her as a scalp and a half that "talked herself once too often out of a job " , they're not going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg and will backed up from on high.
possible test case maybe ? , wouldn't be the first time ?
To me all these polarised arguements /disputes or contentious issues are a form of class war started by the middle classes if the truth be known., but they'll all vote for Gordon .
Amma Fairmann has a point about MP's having parlimentary priviledge , just depends if he/she's a good constituency MP or a Blairite Stooge . No self respecting hack would reveal his/her sources and there's ways of wording things without having to face "the might of Royal Mail" .
I hope Karen & Unison do win in Court, like with RM the trust's arrogance can be their weakest link , but with RM whistleblowing watch for so called coincidences for what RM would regard as loose cannons , the screws are territorial enough as it is . There's stories on here of DOM's threatening people with trumped up Harassment Charges .
A lad was told to ignore thieving by friends of a manager by a"independent" investigator . For shopping them to the IB , RM got people who didn't like him to swear blind he'd been "bullying" them and he got sacked .
