I regularly get changed from duty I'm meant to be doing, often on the day, don't really mind as long as its when I arrive, it's just work after all and I often enjoy the change of scenery.
The only time I kick off is if I prepare a duty I'm meant to deliver and then get told to switch to one that is "badly prepped and behind" at which point I always say if you move me now I will cut off on time, then they go and ask someone else.
Don't personally understand why people get bothered about it but I understand some people like familiarity

The managers are spineless.
Our colleagues are knobs.
Our colleagues are knobs.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If your role is to cover a certain number of duties on their rotational day off then you are perfectly entitled to insist that you do that duty. After all its your duty as its the said duty holders day off.

The problem is some are more "as directed" than others.number one wrote:We are all "as directed"

Nail on the head..sums it up nicely.clashcityrocker wrote:The managers are spineless.

They are too weak and pathetic to stand up to some people so they just mess other people around to make their job easier.
So you end up with the same few people doing pretty much what they want, knowing that they can get away with it and everyone else made to fit in around them and/or given more work to do.
So many different rules for different people.

Depends upon you if you want a fight you can stick to your guns as it were but as I found out your basically pushing your manager to do anything to get rid of you so they can make your life hell unless you all walkout together but I have been through this and am still working in this god forsaken business so the choice is yours!Ricardo44 wrote:Nail on the head..sums it up nicely.clashcityrocker wrote:The managers are spineless.

I know what you mean having had plenty of aggro with various managers myself over the years but still there always seems to be the select few who seem to get their own way without any comeback.k979aaa wrote:Depends upon you if you want a fight you can stick to your guns as it were but as I found out your basically pushing your manager to do anything to get rid of you so they can make your life hell unless you all walkout together but I have been through this and am still working in this god forsaken business so the choice is yours!Ricardo44 wrote:Nail on the head..sums it up nicely.clashcityrocker wrote:The managers are spineless.

Floater taken off duty when dutyholder works day off??
Can sympathise with OP, but i am a duty holder. I used to work day's off, and some A/L, job is too hard now though, so i don't bother. BUT, when i did, overall they needed me more than i needed the money ( hence why they ask ) so the overtime was always on my conditions, and the floaters wouldn't like it, but until they stand up for themselves then nothing will change. Don't take it personally, i dare say you would do the same.
Here's a situation; You and said duty holder are off on annual leave. Managers ask you in, say you will be doing his duty on a particular day that isn't your normal day ( if you were working ). In a staffing miscalculation, they have also asked said duty holder in the same day, and he's only accepting if he is on his own duty.
Who's get's moved? Rightfully it's the reserve's duty for the week.
Managers will always move the people who cause the least hassle.

Why are you working your AL on OT? It's hard enough getting time off let alone the week you want, only for someone with that week giving it up to work!!!

Pretty much comes down to how good and fair your rep is, they will either rightly back you or not be interested incase they upset the full tme duty holder.
