What does the future hold ???

In my office all those that work for free I.e. Coming in early and not taking a break and putting d2d in their own time as well as not claiming at the end then our office overtime would triple and they know it
That would just be offset with the people that finish early and get paid for the remainder of their shift, or the people that are getting paid 3 hours to work an hours o/t.

People wouldn't come back early. RM aren't daft - they know people would string out deliveries to get back on time, if people were being made to clock in and clock out. It's why they still dangle the 'job and finish' carrot in some offices, as they know they would have people work by the book (as we all should be doing) and taking our time, if you make people stay to their finish time.

Maybe then it would stop people rushing around like idiots to finish early. What is wrong with compelling everyone to work all of their paid hours??? In what other business could you unilaterally decide you are going to start work early, cut every corner going just so you can bunk off early??

If you do the job properly and work all your paid hours then you have nothing to fear from clocking in machines.

There would still be people finishing early regardless of getting paid or not, was like that with the last company I worked for. I used to do it myself until the end of the month came and I realised how much money I had lost. I then used to drag my shift out by watching some telly in the van when I was quiet as there was never any work to be completed on my return. I can see this being the case at RM minus the sitting in the van as there always seems to be lapsing to be completed or d2d's that could be prepped. However, no employer can make you go home early and not be paid for the amount of hours that you are legally contracted to work, it's up to them to make the work available.

The other thing this would do is compel people to take their rest breaks, as you would lose 20 minutes if you clocked out 20 minutes before your finish time. It would also end the bullying into working for free that I hear about on this forum and people starting an hour early on their own time to get away an hour earlier.

I'm all for a clocking in and out machine as I start and finish on time by using the correct delivery methods and overrunning procedures. My point is all the free work Royal Mail get (and it's thousands of hours per year) would never want it in.

I have nothing to fear indeed, seeing as I have to cut-off most days, just to get my delivery completed. I can just see it from the 'other side' as it were. Anyone can string out a delivery, even with a tracker in the van.

sussexlad wrote:Does anyone have any idea how they would introduce monthly pay? I mean they couldn't just pay everyone one Friday and then that's it pay wise for 4 long weeks!
RM will want it all their own way - to be fair, if it was introduced, they should pay 2 weeks behind then 2 weeks in front.
If you don't know what that is:-

1st month - No pay for 2 weeks then 4 weeks pay after those first 2 weeks, then monthly after that.

The future?

Reduced deliveries.
Everyone part-time with zero hour contracts.
Franchised deliveries in parcels-a break off like parcel force?
A lot less delivery/indoor staff due to mechanization involving more mergers of delivery offices.
Pay and sick etc all done online through an app.(we now have a Royal Mail app how convenient?) And My Bundle.
etc etc.

Been in the business a long time, been on the tarmac loads of times, seen massive change but this is the biggest.
Always be one step ahead, play their game but be wiser. Revenge is sweet.

Can't wait for clocking in so everyone takes their break then just bring the mail back at the right time and in the future your pda will tell the manager if you have been hiding on your delivery

I can actually see them bringing back task and finish but with a twist - these are your hours, this is your workload what you do with it is up to you but no overtime to be paid ever -finish early great, finish late you are under performing

I think that will be what royal mail do as well. Once theyve got the outdoor delivery standards they will be able to work out how fast your walking and delivering then say youve taken too long delivering that ammount of work so speed up or its performace management time. The pdas could end up being good for quick posties not so good for the rest

Gangham_style14 wrote:Some good points so far......I agree with the monthly pay it seems to be what most company's do nowadays ...
In our office we have a select few who are relied upon to do the overtime for the managers ... even now you hear them
Debate it in there wages about being wrong so If they can't get it right now on weekly pay imagine what it will be like on monthly ...

The d2d and election payments will absolutely suck !!! The amount of money RM earn from this, nothing worse than having to prep 6 D2D in one week :-o
Will feel proper shafted ....

I don't know how anyone else feels but I don't have that much faith in our union ....
After listening to the older posties the impression I have is they just seem to roll over and take back handers
Gangham,
You say there's "nothing worse than having to prep 6 D2D in one week" but would you rather spend time sat down indoors prepping Door To Doors :cuppa or time outdoors delivering in the scorching sun ?

How would this work for those whom are say older 60-65, or have a disability or injury, rehabs or for pregnant ladies?
Therein lies discrimination!
