What have we got to look forward to , years of them whipping us from a great height , our t&cs going downhill , weary bodies worn down and then after all that a pittance to live on . Its real life not a play of some kind .

People working just their hours does seem a sensible approach. It's just as disruptive to an understaffed company as striking. Not sure how you'd convince the greedy ones

Not sure how you would convince the Union glitterati either.

All this working to rule or working normal and overtones bans all fall under the banner of action short of a strike. The law on this is really if an office acts collectively to all suddenly tomorrow to do the job properly and without a ballot and this led to a back log than Royal Mail will flag it up as unofficial action.

Even if it is balloted than what Royal Mail normally do is to instruct someone to do something they don't want to do under a reasonable instruction and than when they person refuses they take them off pay. The rest of the office than has to decide do they walk out in support of the person suspended or do they betray them ? This is how Royal Mail break lots of work to rules or they end up in unofficial strikes.

Take it from someone who has had to resolve loads of unofficial strikes and flash points when offices work properly and Royal Mail deemed it us official that is the tactic they adopt.

As for overtime bans they can work but again what if Royal Mail instruct someone to change their rest day to cover overtime or laspe the overtime then you end up in the same thing someone being suspended.

The only way you win a dispute is by striking and unity.

Or you just accept that all the terms and conditions which take for granted will go ! Remember all the terms and conditions we have have come from striking or the threat of strikes !

The only way to lose a dispute is by being divided.

The workforce is already divided as those who started after 2008 aren't affected by these changes. Those staff members are already on those worse pensions.

Work to rile sounds good. But how do you tell a guy who has a family to feed and is on a 20hour contract but has been working 40hours a week for a year or more to work to rule, to help those who have the better pensions. It won't benefit them in the slightest and will actually leave them way out of pocket.

King Eric the union is looking for united scheme going forward which has the same benefits for all ! So everyone will benefit if they fight not just those employed pre 2008.

I wasn't aware of that and I generally browse these pages. So I think this message needs to be relayed to those guys who started after 2008

Going from defined benefit to defined contribution pensions is common across all industries. Defined benefit is such a huge financial burden on firms, especially as people live so long past retirement age. This is financial prudence. After all, if its unaffordable, and RM does down because of it, where will the money come from to pay out? Before I got a job as a postie and I was looking for work, I didn't see a single company offering a defined benefit pension scheme.

Defined benefit pensions are from the days when people expected to retire mid 60's, live a handful more years, maybe another 5 - 10 years and then shuffle off. Now people are regularly living 20, 25 years beyond retirement it just isn't affordable. Its not beyond reason that you work 30 years and then get 30 years pension payouts. If its defined benefit, how can paying someone who isn't working for 30 years be financially viable for any firm?

Well mate, this needs to be shouted from the rooftops because if we are to get anywhere with this,we need as many people on board as possible!

I browse this board fairly often & reckon i'm more clued up than your average postie on what's going on & this is the first i've heard about a united scheme to benefit us all.
