Anybody else getting grief for exceeding 70 hours?
Yep going over 70 hours is a complete no no in our office, not sure how long that's been the case as i have only been in for 6 months but it has always been made very clear, its actually one of the only rules that was made crystal clear to me from day one tho i think thats because the managers get in trouble rather than the opgs for anyone going over the limit!

Why should he, if he enjoys the work and is willing to do,it, good luck to him, each to their own, what is it to you?nickbsmooth wrote:70+ hrs no life, greed, bad money management, keeping up with the Jones's whatever ,just get a better paid job slash hours and be done with it.
It's better than stealing from your employer , as we see in many of the cases above, those with problems of one sort or another ,resort to stealing from the mail, rather than using legitimate means to obtain money.

To be honest, full timers can easily reach 70 hours.
It's only about 30 hours on docket which depending on local agreements can be done in about 4 days (if you're getting 8 hrs for a full delivery), you can also work your rest day. It is surprising just how quick you can reach that number.
The problem is it is not sustainable, hence, the EU law.

Food for thought...

The DOM gets sent an e-mail with a naughty list of all the people in the sector breaking the 70 hour limit if one or more of his staff is on it. One friday lunchtime i told my DOM that i had just worked out that if i did my collection SA that afternoon i would break the limit, there was no one else willing to do so he said he would just put down the reason as operational needs to bat it off.Stubs wrote:Yep going over 70 hours is a complete no no in our office, not sure how long that's been the case as i have only been in for 6 months but it has always been made very clear, its actually one of the only rules that was made crystal clear to me from day one tho i think thats because the managers get in trouble rather than the opgs for anyone going over the limit!

If you go over the 70 hours one week, you just have your entitlement reduced by the amount of hours you went over the next. It should only ever be a conduct code case if it happens regularly. And yes, it's different at Christmas. ...there are exceptions in the eu law specific to postal workers.

that is simply not the case, holiday pay is simply your contracted hours nothing more, unless something has changed in the last monthIloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:Food for thought...

In my office they won't let you exceed the 70 hours and if you do they just won't pay you anyway so it's not worth trying to do it.

No offence to anyone who works 70 hours a week & fair play to you for doing it. But I'd like to know how many of those 70 hours you are actually "working" & how many are being bluffed through!?
