So much worry about changes, the Union want you to do a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. RM can ask you to do whatever they like. How bad can it honestly get? Start time, meal relief, finish time. That is as hard as it can be.

What do you mean collections on deliveries??? We have been doing that for over a year down south
Yes and so have we. Do you really think they will leave the number of boxes we currently collect from as they are now?

It can get very bad if they introduce walking only dutys.
nobody can sustain 7 hour + deliverys everyday.
The union must do everything in their power to stop walks increasing in size as this would be the final nail in the coffin for posties.

With them XMS sorting machines that RM are looking at I think it'll be "when" not"if" they get introduced, wouldn't be surprised if within 5 years all iLSMs, IMPs and TOPS2K machines are gone and replaced with XMS machines. For packet sorting you don't need that many selections, just one per MC and say 25 more for every DO served by a MC to have a selection.

SpacePhoenix what exactly is an XMS machine, what's the difference between them and what does it mean in the long term? Would it impact delivery staff?

Please forgive my ignorance, I can't remember the last time I set foot in a mail centre! :chuckle

If deliveries get any longer than they already are, we'll be facing a serious crisis with masses of posties going long-term sick. The NHS is gonna need an entire branch of new hospitals just for us

XMS machines sort/sequence letters and flats together so in theory there would be little if any manual flats and letters. IPS time would be cut right down meaning either longer deliveries or later starts

Maybe I'm just being sceptical but i just don't see this technology workable.

So many flats get really stuck together - is a separate bit of the machine the 'peely-apart' bit?

How are these fully prepped rounds to be transported to the DO? In perstop trays with the flats sticking up on end? You can't stack those so it must just be with them flat in a box with all the packets dumped in there too.

Apart from graze boxes etc that just isn't going to work - they are usually weird shapes and they'd fall out of position by the time they arrive.

As for the packets that are slightly bigger than A4 so won't fit in a tray anyway? That's at least 90% of them. It just seems pointless and unworkable to me in practice.

CSS and iLSMs (don't know about TOPS2K machines) fire a jet of air between letters to separate them, normally works unless the sender has gone ott with the glue to seal the envelope

Ok, I can see a jet of air blowing paper tesco vouchers apart, but not flimsy thin plastic wrapped brochures. Sometimes you just have to put the pile on the frame and peel them off one at a time and sort them. Hey ho, I've been wrong before. Maybe it's easy but i just can't imagine it.

We had a big office union meeting today lasted around 30mins and apparently these sorting machines are coming in our office within 18mths and the union bloke said we'll be getting rid of Frames to sort the mail and do it from the back of the van, something merging he called it.

There was loads of other bad news too like using the new pda's to track our every movement/one wave mail meaning not out till gone 10-11am resulting in silly finish times and other grim stuff, union doing sweet fa a usual - seemed to just resign themselves to it

All happening by 2018 he said.

Not at the moment no but the way the Rep was talking ie frames will be gone ips will be virtually non existent seems to point towards it becoming one.

It really did sound dreadful what he was coming out with - read it off a sheet of paper prepared by the regional Rep.

This really does need a new " Thread" opening, because of all the NEW STUFF that is happening/going to be put on Deliveries it requires more of a Topic than "Moyas silent team" Things that the Company & Union are agreeing to going forward should be put out there
