That would be the designated driver who signs out the van/keys, carries out the vehicle check and signs the log book.BeamishStout wrote: RM have no means of identifying the individual driving the van
I think RM have a legal obligation to know who is driving a van at any given time.

and will it show you didn't turn the van off for 2 hours, which I don't when I am up on the mountains?

So for P&L routes which needs one of the pair to pick up the partner at the end of their "one way loop"?motherhubbard wrote:That would be the designated driver who signs out the van/keys, carries out the vehicle check and signs the log book.BeamishStout wrote: RM have no means of identifying the individual driving the van

Correct procedure states that the driver is the person who last signed the log book.
Therefore, if you alternate between drivers in a shared van then each of you need to sign the log book when you take over the driving.

Some info from the trackers (if they are Trible units) site about how customers use these devices.
http://trl.trimble.com/docushare/dsweb/ ... _Study.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
TRACKING LOCATIONS
WITH FIELDMASTER [Remote real-time tracker software]
Del-Mar uses Fleet Management for a number of
reasons, including verifying when workers start and
end their shifts, monitoring speeding.....
With FieldMaster Supervisor, tracking worker
locations is even easier. To find out where a tech
is and check on job status, Rowan needs only
tap his smartphone a couple of times to get the
information. “I’m the service manager and I’m
often meeting with customers or surveying a
job, so it’s important for me to know where my
workers are,” says Rowan. “Now I use FieldMaster
Supervisor daily when I am out in the fi eld or at
a meeting and need to check on my crew. It’s a
great app.”
The solution enables managers and supervisors to make
intelligent decisions using the real-time location
and status of their vehicles
If my workers
go outside their area, I get an alert
Not much about fuel efficiency there.

Re: New BLEEPING tracker BLEEPING box in BLEEPING vans
Actually the problem (IMHO) with the box on deep rurals isn't the farm tracks. The box seems to check how fast you've accelerated or decelerated over the last few seconds, so the bouncing on farm track doesn't in my experience set it off. However as you say, it can't assess the conditions ... Thus if you're pulling out of a farm track either on a major (i.e. 60mph) road, or maybe just round from a blind bend it will complain if you accelerate quickly. So your choices are risk being rear-ended / t-boned by someone driving like a total loon or set the box off. I fully expect management's shoulders to become slopes (i.e. all responsibility slides off them and onto you) if you get hit because you where driving slowly.CAMPINGBLUNDERER wrote:the problem is that this little box cannot asses the road conditions or type of road you are driving on.
I can see it throwing a fit on deep rural duties , you know the ones that feel like you are driving across a battlefield in first or maybe second gear just so you can actually get to that Farmhouse.
If you really work at it, it is just about possible to get around with setting the bleeper off all that much. (So perhaps possible with even more effort to get no beeps?) So far I've only driven Fiat Dublos with the box, so Bippers/Corsas/Partners/Vivaros may well be different but here's what I've learned!
[1] Maintain nothing more than the lightest pressure on the accelerator pedal. Roughly equivalent to just a little more force than just resting your foot on the pedal, though you can apply more force the higher the gear you're in.
[2] Change up from 1st to 2nd before you hit 2000rpm, every other change up do before 2000-2500rpm. (Obviously in 5th you let the engine rev to whatever rpm you need for the 50-70mph you're doing.)
[3] Because you'll be accelerating so slowly you won't be going as fast when you need to brake, however start braking from about twice as far away as you usual would and apply as little brake as you can.
[4] If like me, you learned to drive such that when decelerating for a junction/roundabout you stayed in whatever gear you where in and then switched straight to second when you dropped below 30mph don't do this! The added deceleration of engine braking will set the bleeper off! Either wait until <20mph, or take your foot off the brake as you lift the clutch.
... obviously doing all of this won't exactly do wonders for your finishing time!
I also expect that it won't ultimately do the engine the power of good either

The driver picks up the passenger.greengiant wrote: So for P&L routes which needs one of the pair to pick up the partner at the end of their "one way loop"?
I don't know how so many people have got Park and Loop so wrong. There are two duties put together to make a park and loop pair. The duty holder of Duty 1 (say) is the driver and the duty holder of duty 2 is the passenger. If a reserve or floater does Duty 1, he is the driver for that day. If he does Duty 2 , then he is the passenger for the day.
How else could it work?

Not just that, if you don't give a diesel a good boot now and again the engine will coke up in various areas including cylinder heads and the exhaust gas channels. The result includes engine damage and......RTP wrote:Driving this slow can't be doing the diesel filters much good.

Bring it in then for the deep rural duties.CAMPINGBLUNDERER wrote:the problem is that this little box cannot asses the road conditions or type of road you are driving on.

I will love to ask my Dom if they could come out with me and show me how to drive within the limits that RM want me too , give it a couple of weeks and they will give up .
One of the vans in a nearby office has had forward " reverse " sensors fitted , they really love queuing in traffic ...... So beeping from the front , beeping from the rear and soon to be beeping and disco lights inside and when you finally stop to actually deliver some mail , voices from beyond the grave telling you about a handbrake.
I wonder what " driver aid " will be next ...... Ear defenders ?
