Delivering mail to multi-occupied addresses

If you live in or occupy business premises in a location where our delivery staff only have access to a single point where they deliver mail for multiple residences or premises within that location, this is considered to be a multi-occupied address.

Where delivery arrangements already exist where a facility is provided such as a central point for the delivery of mail or the provision of external lockable letter boxes at a building/site, these will be deemed as the delivery point for the individual addresses. In such circumstances, Royal Mail will not perform deliveries to individual residences or business premises, if requested by individual customers, even if the delivery standard criteria below are met.

If you have an item that needs to be signed for this will be delivered to the door to obtain the signature rather than left at the central point."
No. You are misinterpreting the info.

That means that you can not let a concierge, or caretaker sign for the Item. That is just common sense in a Multi occupied block.

Special Delivery I would always take to a door regardless. The rest I would buzz them ask them to come down and bring ID. Tracked and recorded BTW can be left with the concierge as delivered to a neighbour at your discretion of course.. Just put in the card saying where it was left.

RM website can't keep up with the ever changing whimsical chite that comes from above...just like us.

There are so many things that slow us down that on paper are not there.

Filling out p739's (only for the customer to be in the whole time)
Waiting to cross a busy road
general public, IE old ladys taking ages to come to the door, and then struggling to use PDA.
Traffic
d2d's prepping and delivering.
having to take 'long' routes whilst using trolleys
deliver to neighbour(s)
having a block of flats that has time accounted for because letter boxes are downstairs, however you have to go to the top to deliver a parcel/get a signature.
slow lifts on blocks which dont have stairs (there are a few where the stairs are out the back yet only a lift for our access)
trade button problems
These things are all built into your measured workload
Deliver to neighbour was definitely not included in our last revision, measured workload. They came up with a fudge to make it sound like we we would be able to absorb it. Needless to say, however we now have many jobs not completable most days.
Other things not included in workload,In my office anyway are:

Filling out a detailed log of why a Tracked item could not be delivered!
Having to take Tracked items, for loops that we do not have time to complete, meaning an extra drop for the driver.
We now also have to treat the new scanned delivered items as Tracked items effectively. IE take them on loops we cant complete. (another driver drop)
Noting on letters which houses have dogs each day.
Having to deliver loops out of planned sequence to meet 1300 guaranteed deadline. Meaning driving back and forth costing time or extra drops for the driver.
Trying to find a parking space.
A multitude of other unforeseeable one of things like roadworks Builders or scaffolders lorries badly parked.

Managers are funny people.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No, you have a LWT with two bags of mail on it, you go inside, upstairs and get sacked for failing to safeguard the mail. They come down regardless of what it say's on the website. Mail is not to be left unattended at any time.

But then you may not have a LWT and just delivering a large signed for parcel as you are the driver on a P&L job.

What you have here is a statement saying what RM will do. It clearly states WE WILL DELIVER TO THE DOOR for a signature and if recipient is fully aware of this then we must make a reasonable effort to deliver to them whatever equipment we are working with on that day. But having said that If we are working with a LWT and feel leaving the LWT downstairs in an undesirable area then tell the customer this and ask them to come on down. If they want to complain then let them. It's our jobs after all we are protecting.

Whether we deliver or they are forced to come on down it's still extra time that RM has not taken into account

Driving past addresses you could be delivering letters to .
Basically driving around separately with priority stuff is ok if the walk is doable in the time but on my routes the cut off comes in after only 60% of the stuff is delivered . It kinda makes a joke out of the whole 1st class 2nd class time frame .
When I was doing the walk alone with a van there was no problem as the other guy had a van also but now royal mail expect us to finish two separate walks with a shared van in the same time , its just bonkers .

Driving back to your buddy and your buddy waiting for you . = wasting time X 2
People who dump missorts on your desk (that dont belong to you) while your deep up to your eyes in redirects .
Going through your buddies bundles looking for all the priority stuff that he has not put asside .

I actually dont mind the flats as I buzz the guys I need sigs and (oversized) tracked for, if they respond they get the stuff to their door , if not then a quick p739 is waiting for them in their box in lobby so the more people are out the quicker that loop gets done .

Using the correct Delivery Methods tools properly
Standing still to filter mail for next address from mail bundle
>2/3 D2Ds per household
Giving attendance calls 1min to answer the door (linked to sheer number of such calls we have now, compared to the "planned" 19(?) calls per 500 delivery points)
