How about doing what you're supposed to do?
In theory your right here, but different offices have different responsibilities for the DOM support and there is NO clearly defined set of duties.
cathyk wrote:portering , throwing off deliveries, throwing off D2Ds, missorts
All of the above is OPG work!
Agree the above tasks are OPG duties and should be allocated as such.
cathyk wrote:business replies, all cage work, handling, sorting special deliveries, surcharges, answering callers door and phones, planning duties, box keys, van keys and PDa allocation
All of the above is also OPG work,
No they aren't all OPG work - BRPs are DOM support in my office - there is a lot of computer input and a OPG would not have access to a pc or even a log in for that.
Cage work should be the responsibilty of the RLE duty holder.
Surcharges are processed by our DOM support.
Callers duties are callers duties, plain and simple.
Planning duties involves our DOm support simply because they have the knowledge to offer the best input in my office.
Box keys, van keys and PDa's should again be part of the RLE duty.
(which used to be performed by the old PHG).

That's yours, except of course for work which requires you to be a Manager or have a team! …and don't forget WRAP since 'Safety Is Our Number 1 Priority'

You could, if you stick with just your own work and perhaps spent the rest of your time supporting your DOM in ensuring that they correctly allocate the OPG work load and resources within their unit!
It's no use saying work which requires you to be a manager -the clue is in the job title - you are there to support the DOM and as such undertake any duties the DOM feels you could offer assistance with. I agree there are tasks that should really only be covered by a manager, but none of the above mentioned tasks fall into that category really.

With no actual list of responsibilities it leaves anyone in the role wide open to abuse from above, but common sense should prevail.
Our DOM support does much of the above mentioned tasks (minus the protering and throwing off walks), the RLE does all RLE work and the callers does all the callers work. Our DOM support also processes all D2D paperwork and allocation, all redirections - withdrawls and issuing as well as ordering new labels.
It's a job i've covred in the past and have no wish to cover again.

Firstly you are there to support the DOM, not do theirs and others work for them!
Secondly, since nobody is allowed to give you direct access to their PC login or password, you do not have Manager access to PSP in order to process the PSP tasks mentioned. Additionally only the DOM has overall access to all staff, and each Line Manager exclusive access to their own allocated team of Employee's. Therefore those tasks are the remit of the Managers, hence my statement, 'work which requires you to be a Manager or have a team'.

Perhaps you should explain how the DOM support in my office has it's own log in then?
Been that way for at least 10 years that i know of.

Do you have a job description that lists the duties of a DOM support?
That would be the only way to say what they should not be doing surely?

Or, look at it the other way - if you were a DOM support who found that on a fairly regular basis your usual daily duties meant you had some spare time here and there what would you do....
Put your feet up and relax over a coffee?
Go home early?
Come up with some jobs that are either not being done correctly/ or at all and suggest you do them in order to protect your job, under the guise of assisting management?

Nobody said that the DOM Support shouldn't have a login.
In order to use a Royal Mail PC you are required to use your own UserName and Password, those however do not give you access to PSP, which require additional security credentials etc. The People Systems Portal is for managing people, and as such should require you to be a Manager.

The Manager is paid to manage your duty tasks sufficiently to take you up to your contracted finish time, not you.

But they do tell you that the LIEU day you wanted in 6 months time COMPUTER SAY NO. :dance :dance :dance :dance :dance :dance

I don't recall mentioning any tasks that require the use of PSP?

In an ideal world perhaps so. In our office the DOM support has often been a lapsed duty when the regualr duty holder has been on holiday or even on a day off when the cover can be better used on delivery(not a term i would use, but a management term).
In order to ensure the duty is not lapsed the regular duty holder has ensured the duty should take anyone up to their finishing time every day. To ensure that he probably does the odd task that perhaps he wouldn't in another office, but where is the job description that lists what they should/ should not be doing?
So far PSP is the only thing i can agree requires management grade and as stated we don't use it?

I'm sorry but from what you said that wasn't clear.

PSP is not just for managers. I went to a training course specifically for DOM Support level when it was originally rolled out. I have access to overtime payments and intermittent allowances (excluding myself!) for all the staff in the office.

I work in a small office (25 duties) and my duty is termed as the 'PHG' role (yes, I know there is no such thing as a PHG anymore but it is just used to describe the job content). It could be described as DOM Support as there is only the DOM to support. I am just an OPG who picked the duty when it became available.

It involves the RLE, Callers Office, Redirection updates, RCS, Redelivery Requests, Daily Reporting, A+ changes, overtime payments, vehicle & log book control, collection keys and a few other bits and pieces including 30 mins delivery.

When our DOM support is on annual leave no one covers her duty, that's how busy she gets. Although saying that when the SOM makes a visit she works like a pit pony...

I had this title bestowed upon me over 2 years ago.
Since then ( starting November 2013) I have had my start and finish times changed without agreement.
My long weekends changed without agreement.
Been put out on delivery, which took about 1 1/2 hours, without agreement. This caused me to fail my indoor work for over 1 year (finally resolved april 2015).
I had my leadership allowance taken away without agreement.
The building keys were taken away ( I used to open up daily and sometimes lock up before I was called a DOM support ).

The duties which I consider to be part of my daily work are :

Redeliveries.
BRP's ( 6,000+ manually handled items per week )
CA26 input.
Redirections old and new.
Keepsafes old and new.
PO Boxes.
Fees database.
Ordering.
Surcharges.
Customs charges.
Cash reconciliation.
Obscurely addressed mail.
IT issues.
Customer service issues.
Face to face issues with customers in the calllers office.
D2D allocation.
Election payments when they arise (using a managers PSP account).

And any issues which may arise from any of the above.

DOM support ? Just some stupid words.
