We're lapsing because of vacant duties because management wont fill them..............all going to go pear shaped in a months time when the mail really picks up.

You don't have to work past your contracted hours no matter what your DOM says, tell him before you go out that you wont have time.

Sounds like your office needs to grow a pair and stand up to him.

those that take it out only if they have time to do it in their duty time without booking OT, about 49%;
those that always take out their lapsing no matter how heavy the mail is (but book the OT), about 30%;
those that never take it out no matter how light the mail is (but always magically turn up at the correct clocking-out time), about 20%;
those that clear up the leftover bits that nobody else took, about 1%. (Actually it's way less than that. It's usually just me.)

Does that sound normal nationally or are we oddballs here?
Those people would be having their mail and call rate counted in our office, they are taking the piss out of everyone else.

Yep. But what would be done? Told they are too slow? B&H. Threatened with consequences? B&H. Any kind of repercussion for their actions? B&H. This unionised work force cuts both ways, true it empowers those who are in need of support but it also enables some to take the piss without recourse, apparently.

But after having their mail and call rate counted, then what?
Currently a manager can do very little about what he sees as underperformance.
I think that might change.

I give it 12 months until new traffic figures show a decline in mail.
Then it all starts again.

If everyone did their job properly then there would be no lapsing. And I mean sticking to using trolleys when they are meant to and walking at a pace where your not rushing.

This is nonsense.
I do my job properly. I did 30 minutes lapsing and still finished 20 minutes early. So I prepped tomorrows D2D.

Very little? apart from taking them down the conduct code with a charge of non culpable inefficiency which could actually lead to dismissal yeah that certainly comes under my definition of "very little" :roll:

Prepping tomorrows d2ds today is not doing the job properly. you said that you thought i was undermining the union with some of the facts i had stated, well this action you are doing is undermining all your fellow posties and potentially taking money out of their pockets, that 20 minutes of d2d prep was from tomorrows figures, in effect you have reduced tomorrows workload as you will now have an extra 20 minutes to lapse tomorrow, that 20 min could have been offered to a postie to complete on OT

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
