Most of the office is gone way before my miss-sorts hit the IPS frame!
No one is allowed to leave our office till the manager shouts "Check your missorts frame and sign out" - any missorts not taken and explanations will be expected.

slightly off topic, I know, but would issues like this ever crop up if people were made to wait to an agreed time (say 30 mins before departure time) before bundling up their run? Except for say duties that have timed/paid for deliveries who might need out earlier.

Yes and No.

There should always be a planned release time for all duties anyway. The missort runs should take that into account.

You'll always have people bundling up late and leaving missorts last as it slows them down, and any duties being done by someone for the first time are nearly always last out.

On the timed/paid deliveries if its a paired delivery then only 1 of them has to do it, unless the distance to the delivery is exceptional, they could leave the other behind for the sweep and other tasks (D2D prep For instance)

We usually have a few walks that haven't been prepped before we go out

This should be the procedure - but it only ever happens in our CDO when an audit is expected (usually once a year or so). Which kind of defeats the object of having an audit.

We have four driver /timed delivery walks and they never take out a collapsed walk. They get their 2nd mech early and leave the office before everyone else. And so they get back early (especially on Saturday when half the firms are shut). Their frames are never empty though funnily enough...

The lino's in my depot are more concerned with getting the lapsed duties covered than all the packets and mail delivered. And there are always a few walks that have not been prepped when staff have left the office
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I take any missorts out of the IPS frame before leaving, not put stuff in.

Call it what you want, but he intentionally delayed mail and that's wilful delay. How hard is it to just take it with you and deliver it?

Manager puts a test packet on his fitting, postie missorts it back to the IPS.
If he's ready to leave, how did he know there was something on his frame?

About missorts and leaving times.. Every single day there are people loading their vans and driving off as I walk through the yard to START. I have to finish prepping my frame, and there are often letters and packets for those who have already left the building. This doesn't really bother me it's not my problem, but it's annoying when I'm asked to do something extra such as a collection and this will take me even further over my time (so I often refuse), and nothing is done about those who leave an hour or more before me.

Not sure of the exact details but it was not a testpacket going through/testing the system. It was marked by a manager and put on his fitting after he had tied-up.

I don't understand how one company can be run so differently in different offices. In ours the PT staff start at 8.45, their walks are already thrown off by the P&L partner so it's just finishing off any last bits of prep and tying up. Nobody can get Specials until 9.15-9.30 and all missorts have to be cleared.

It's only on really bad days that the odd person may still have some prep left when some others are going out, but it's very little.

Brain, are you trying to defend the indefensible?

It appears this postie has form and the manager was testing him specifically and he failed the test. Is it entrapment if and when posties have been warned? or should know better?

I think you should not have used the phrase 'missort' for deliberate delay of mail. Missort is often something that happen inadvertently or by mistake. To have something that belong to your frame put back unto the IPS frame is wilful delay and the manager is right to do something about it.
If he has an auditor come in unannounced, the manager will be in trouble himself.

I hope every single OPG in the depot is being treated equally for leaving anything behind on any day, I would hate for there to be a discrimination case.

Does this ever happen?

I ask because they always know in our DO as everything is done properly before they turn up.

Also just to clarify there is no such thing in UK law as entrapment - its a legal term in America so we can blame Hollywood for that. :Very Happy
It is established case law that, while offering significant mitigation at sentencing, there is no defence of entrapment in English law (R v Sang [1980] AC 402). However, it is also considered to be an abuse of court process for agents of the state to lure citizens into committing illegal acts and then seek to prosecute them for doing so. State-created entrapment of this sort will result in a stay of proceedings.
So in essence they gave him the opportunity to make a choice, he chose the wrong one. If following the above quote from http://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/the-law ... ullarticle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; then as long as the manager didn't entice him to leave it behind then its unlikely that a ET/Trial would dismiss the case, or make an judgement in the posties favour.

I don't understand it either. Your way sounds like it might be the way it's meant to be, but we (PT'ers) aren't meant to start until 9:30. We don't have that many park and loop pairings, as there are a lot of rurals. I think the rurals, who are all full timers, have a lot of say in the running of things, and get away with murder. Also, my partner is also part time, so we have it the worst. Some park and loop pairs are both full time, and get out as early as they like.
