At first I wondered who the feck was Whistl......................
then I read the rebranding notes for TNT and immediately thought "shades of Consignia" who nobody knew who it was or what it meant and I see the same problem with TNT......bunch of muppets. A thought has occurred to me in thinking the cull of RM Managers hasn't ended up at Whistl have they in which case RM has no need to worry because the level playing field is quickly being reached insofar as they'll both have arseh0les running the show

Why don't you offer your service's for some over time in a DO and show us how it's done then...You'd be in for a rude awakening.oldrope wrote:ihatedogs wrote:It's noticeable to me that the majority of b & h is happening in DO's. If you're in processing then you simply work your hours, have your full breaks and go home at your finish time. Collections/network drivers have their breaks built in to their duties & are simply left to get on with their work.
Contrast this with the average D.O. where Postie's are routinely harrassed from the moment they sign in & are questioned about everything. I' ve seen posties asked why they are using the toilet during IPS time ( I know of one Dom who actually locked the toilets, causing a walkout & resulting in him getting a real bollocking off his gaffer.) Duties are routinely too big but you're questioned if you cannot complete/lapse and booking time off is a nightmare.
Just to add, there is no criticism of my fellow Postie's here, processing & collections is how the workforce should be treated, but the b & h in deliveries shows the true face of a privatised company more interested in their bank balance than the welfare of the people providing the profits.
It dose not matter if you work in a MC or a DO ect you start on time (not coming in early) take your break and go home at your finish time. End of

Dont know about TNT as they are a large company like Royal Mail. But most other courier companies rely on people being self-employed drivers which might be a good thing except:
- You get 65p a parcel BUT they must be delivered (some with the customers own signature)
- returning parcels back means you don't get paid
- you can claim back petrol expenses by submitting tax returns
- customers constantly wanting to know where their parcel is AND if you have delivered it elsewhere, who you have left it to
BUT the biggest drawback by far is that you will have virtually no employment rights. You don't get sick pay because you are self employed AND there have been many reports of staff getting finished because they couldn't get in to work to do their delivery. You also have to work a lot of hours to get anything from working in these sorts of jobs...
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Not necessarily. A guy sacked by Royal Mail two years ago delivered an item to me the other day. We got chatting and he admitted that he needed to work harder than he did at Royal Mail to make a living, but he said that he kept more of his earnings due to the way self employed people can write down so much of what they earn and therefore not pay tax on it. He also said that any pressure was of his own making and not down to a load of scumbag managers and work associates.

Re: Reading all these topics
It's not that simple though. The problem is that a lot of OPGs working in DOs are scared about being bullied and harassed when attempting to cut off so instead they come in early and run to get the job done. They are not aware of how to cut off properly and fearful they'll get done for willful delay. This makes impossible workloads look like they are easily achieved in the time when they are not, then when someone tries to do it properly the DOM wants to know why it can't be achieved in the time, which leads to more bullying.oldrope wrote: It dose not matter if you work in a MC or a DO ect you start on time (not coming in early) take your break and go home at your finish time.
