If no job losses Image
Absolutely, TBT. I'd sooner drink hemlock, than see colleagues cast aside just so I get Saturday off. If it can be arranged without anyone losing
their job, all well and good, if not then Royal Mail should be told to feck off.

By this i presume you mean we all work Mon-Fri and that there would then be no need for floaters? This is a tricky one because im sure a lot of us would say yes to this but it just undermines everything we are fighting for,all those people out of a job!
RM would love to do this, the savings would be enormous,i know the floaters would go,but VR/TMA would be offered as a first resort and if you were in the way,you would get killed in the stampede,so many people want out of the job.It would cost initionally, but the savings in the longer term would be massive...........i guess at the same time they would cut Saturday collections to just sub post offices and heavy box's with no despatch till the Monday. The floater managers would also be done away with, savings on fuel, heating offices, lighting ect ect.........

But forget it,it aint gonna happen for years,postcom/postwatch will not lift the saturday USO.

Would be great, but I am with the "not at the exspence of jobs" camp. Just think of the loss of earnings the 5 day + 1 s/a day boys would lose.
How about Mon - Fri with a skelington delivery staff in to deliver Saturday only post that has been paid extra for. I believe Parcel Force have some sort of set up like this. If it's a must be there on Saturday send it Special Delivery. Any thoughts out there???

Postwatch are less than favourable. Think about the savings on staff. Lets for arguments sake say that RM win and their aim is to renegotiate the MTSF and IR framework - out go the full timers and hello part timers. I could imagine the wages bill being cut by a third or perhaps more.
Over a period new full time contracts with poor conditions appear and those on the 20/25 hour contracts sign on - who wouldn't?
I dont think renegotiation of MTSF or IF Frame work will be done i think its going to be the case of they will no longer be recognised by RM sorry to sound so negative

If we went for a 5 day week and monthly pay the financial benefits to RM would be enormous. I am all for it as long as it's done properly. As long as all jobs losses are voluntary, we get a sweetener to go monthly paid AND we get a reasonable pay offer I can't see why not.......hang on.....properly,voluntary and reasonable.....it won't happen!!! but if it did we could do business mail and SD on saturday, it could be staffed by SA's.

I think it would be a win win situation, as long as the jobs lost went through natural wastage. Crozier and his bitch may well not favour it but they don't work 6 days a week do they?
