It's all about supply and demand and similar to the housing market, so if there's more people selling than buying the price is likely to go down. And vise versa.

It counts as income so it will potentially be taxable.

I believe it will be around July and will either be paid into the same bank account as your wages or by cheque.

No - if everyone is selling them then they buyers have a choice and the price goes down. Its like petroleum when the is more available the price goes down, when there is less then the price goes up.

Will I have to pay income tax on any dividends I receive?

Dividends are taxable income. How much income tax you have to pay will depend on your personal tax status. All dividends (whether the shares they relate to are held in the SIP , or held in the Royal Mail Nominee Share Service or in your name on the ordinary shareholder register) are received with the benefit of a tax
credit. This means that if you are a basic-rate taxpayer or pay no tax, you will have no further tax to pay on the dividends . Otherwise, you will have to pay extra tax under self-assessment.

How will I receive dividends?

For your Free Shares, any dividend payments will be paid straight into the bank account we pay your salary into. If Equiniti does not have details of your bank account, they will send a cheque to your registered home address.

For any shares you buy under the Employee Priority Offer and hold in your name on the ordinary shareholder register, you can choose which bank account to have your dividends paid into. If you do not give Equiniti details of a bank account, they will send a cheque to your registered home address.

In the absence of unforeseen circumstances, the Board intends to propose a final dividend of £133 million for the year. Like other shareholders, you will be eligible to receive any dividends we pay. If the dividend is approved, you would receive your payment in July 2014, on both your SIP 2013 and SIP 2014 Free Shares, providing you remain eligible.

Why are you assuming there's going to be a buyout?

Thats because it becomes a sellers market not a buyers market, thats why the price usually goes up because someone is interested in getting as many shares as they can so they can take over the company. In other words they'll spend as much as they can to get the shares.

A lot of fund managers that bought RM shares when the company first floated have since sold them and taken a nice profit. Personally I don't think there's much more money to be made based current price levels. And with the dividend yield being less attractive, I can't see many large purchases being made unless it's the beginnings of a future take over plan by a competitor/s. But any possible take over will take years to materialise in my opinion.

The workforce currently own around 10% of the company which is going to drop in October 2016 and again two years later as we sell up. Even if one entity buys up the whole 10% will it really make a huge difference to the running of the company?

BTW, who gets the dividend for the next 3 years. Rumour has it that it could be has high as 8%.
well if they do drop in value loads i wont be selling them :thumbup
