Veron, this is the 3rd thread which I am guessing is due to the same situation.

1:With regards to the ex phg thread,it's nothing to do with him/her,the cut off would be stored in a safe place and the manager informed the next morning,it's not his/her's problem.

2:With regards to the new walk thing, the opg 'should' of informed a manager that he/she was new on the walk, didn't have a clue on this and that and that there may be problems.
Then after that the manager would advise.

3:The fact that the opg went over and has not been paid is a bummer but he/she should of done point 2.Or at least tried to contact the office when the problem had arisen.

4:The manager is a cock, and should at least be a bit sympathetic after everything had been explained with at least a rep present and paid the extra.

You are also confusing us and the situation as in this thread you mention the opg being confident in completing but unexpectedly at the end of the duty he/she ran into trouble.

And in the new walk thread you question how the opg would know if they would finish as they are new on the walk.

It seems to me that it's a case of getting the rep involved and see what he/she can do about it,and if no joy, suck it up and a lesson learnt
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I see but isnt that wilful delay , if there has a been a problem and manager refuses to pay overtime , then no one should do NADA unless they are getting paid for it . royal mail sems to think they should beacuse of thre history of bullying people to work for free... problem .. come back with mail .. managers problem if there was to be no overtime .. and the postman didnt turn up then what does the manager do go home.. or worry that there has been no one returned investigate? call the postman?.. not a chance..

oh i see so the manager does not know if they are on a new walk.. i think they would of been the one putting them on a new walk so will be well awaire of that so they woudl be aware there could be problem? and refusing to pay overtime under these circumstances sounds like yes.. as you said manager being a clock
3:The fact that the opg went over and has not been paid is a bummer but he/she should of done point 2.Or at least tried to contact the office when the problem had arisen.
contact the office? do u always think people have phones just to help rm out? going into the office is just the same as contacting the office
4:The manager is a cock, and should at least be a bit sympathetic after everything had been explained with at least a rep present and paid the extra.

It does state in the Conduct Code that you should inform the manager at the earliest opportunity, either by phone or by returning to the office.

If they won't pay you ot, tell your dom you're going to Flex, go in 30 minutes late the next day and if you can't complete cut off.

business policy is, that you make them aware of the problem as soon as you become aware of the problem.
We are expected to comply with policy.
i return every time, working to my time I'd rather spend 30 mins in a van driving back to the office, wait for those half wits to make a decision, and then drive back out, than call those bone idle soap dodgers only to be told "stay out and do as much as you can". They know the walks to big and yet do nothing, I'm playing the long game, I've got about 25 years till i retire.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Don't you have an overtime book to fill in before you leave office? Were you so confident you didn't even fill it in? I put something everyday without fail. I'm never confident I'll finish on time, even my own duty.

In the scenario you describe, I'd finish the duty, see the manager the next day, explain how I went way beyond the call of duty, and make it clear that I expect to be paid the overtime. Should he refuse, I will make it clear I will never, ever do anything like that again, all goodwill gone.
