Re the grinning idiots in The Courier, about 10 years ago our D.O. was involved in trials of new delivery methods and when The Courier correspondant turned up, all the posties refused to be photographed for his piece. To the rescue came a lino who got his old uniform out off mothballs, squeeeeezed into it and sure enough his photo appeared, grinning like a loon
Just read the latest propoganda issue - just to see the extent of the 'spin' being used.
It really is just as though they have used a sieve to just deliver the mix that they want and have thrown away the unpalatable bits (the truths).
As with previous documents, the Courier repeatedly drones on delivering the same old rhetoric that is akin to a chinese water torture - with our livelihoods at stake.
Looking forward with some apprehension to hearing the outcome of the CWU conference over the coming days - if ever there was a need for clear, strong and decisive leadership the time is now.
Pointless writing to Moya or Government MP's as entreched positions have already been taken. Time to stand to together!

Surely her job is to run RM, who owns it should not concern her, yes she can have an opinion as we do and if we are sold I would still expect us to provide the best service we can to the public. She should concentrate on her job and leave the rest to the politicians.
Her job is to prepare RM for privatisation. That's why the Government employed her! She's not there to be impartial about ownership.
As for the Courier, we work for RM not the Government and it's RM's responsibility to communicate information to their employees. Of course it's up to you whether to choose to believe it or even read it (although it seems incredibly stupid not to) but it won't be possible for you to say you weren't told.

The Courier is just a waste of paper
On the other hand I was recently present when Courier interviewed a number of posties at a DO for an upcoming story. They were all happy to give their opinion and be photographed. No doubt they will be castigated here as fakes or a****oles.

An opinion as totally unbiased as the spin machine that IS the courier - the members of the union would prefer to hear crap from the CWU, but many thanks for offering an alternative.

Well of course it's a spin machine, it's the company newspaper! That doesn't by definition mean that nothing in it is ever honest or true or at least worth reading to understand all sides of the issue so that you can make up your own mind about. Automatically assuming that it's simply all lies just seems to me to be more about cynical dogma than any desire for understanding or independent thought. More depressing is the kneejerk character assassination of any of our colleagues who are involved in a story that's positive about RM.
And no, I don't work for Courier or have any involvement with it.

Makes me wonder in which issue your happy, clappy face appeared and how many times you have subscribed to the Have Your Say page - if there is one. Understanding and independent thought do NOT relate to the Courier in any shape or form - and no I don't actually read it, just look at the pictures.........quite enough to make me fast for the day.
EVERYTHING in the Courier is positive about RM Brian don't you get it - the reason that people are against it is for that very reason because the Utopia that RM portray is a world away from the reality that they work in day to day.

Never had my picture in Courier, never had a letter published (or even written one). At the risk of repeating myself, of course everything in Courier is positive about RM - it's the company newspaper not Private Eye or Socialist Worker. And I do get it - you don't read it because you already know that there is nothing, NOTHING positive to be said about working for Royal Mail, none of it's initiatives are ever any good, whatever they tell you is a lie and anybody that even suggests otherwise is an idiot "happy, clappy face" company lackey. Seems to me to be the opposite of the open mind needed for independent thought.
Do they think that if they keep telling us that bullshit don't smell, that we beleive them. But all the farms I deliver to, the bullshit most certainly does stink!!

They came and interviewed and photographed one of our lads for a story, when he gave his opinion, they said you can't say that we won't be allowed to print it, needless to say, it didn't get printed.
Ah so much for independent thinking then - published only if those thoughts and opinions fit the company line

Well if you keep up posting in the present vein Brian I would imagine the Courier will be sending one of their roving reporters to interview their most ardent fan.
Orson Welles once did a spoof on the radio of War Of the Worlds in 1938 and people were throwing themselves out of windows, now if the Courier did a similar story Bri I'm just wondering which floor you'd choose.
