Door 2 Door - Unagreed Delivery Procedure
Further to LTB 477/13 issued on the 10th July 2013 this LTB is being sent to reaffirm the CWU position that there is no agreement with the CWU to alter the terms of the National Agreement, and that it still holds the field.
For ease of reference the BT 2010 Agreement states the following:
"Whilst the planned workload will be spread across the 6 days, delivery employees will have the ability to manage the delivery of the items themselves on the proviso that all items are delivered within the week and the delivery specification is not affected".
Any proposals or edicts to impose changes to a unit's preferred method of delivering D2D providing the preferred method is compliant with the National Agreement should be dealt with via the Industrial Relations Framework.
In addition, at our meeting with Royal Mail on the 16th July 2013 we raised the reports we were receiving that indicated that an unagreed procedure requiring our members to only deliver Door to Door items to address points where they have ‘live mail' i.e. no ‘cold calling' was being deployed. They responded by stating that there is no edict from Royal Mail nationally for this to be introduced.
Branches/Representatives are therefore advised to register disagreement where management attempt to deploy this unagreed approach.
We have also informed Royal Mail that this unagreed approach is completely contrary to the National Agreement and sends the wrong message to our members, in that it creates the perception that D2D is not the same as normal mail when the whole concept of putting D2D into workload was so that it would be treated as normal mail to assist in the development of D2D as a product to protect jobs.

Re: A sixth a day
I wonder if I work for the same firm as people on here sometimes.
99% of people in our office have a rota week, not day off so having to do them day by day is irrelevant.
And I'd love a job where I need to do my sixth a day to "make my time up"!

Re: A sixth a day
The whole situation is farcical.
The union states that this unagreed approach creates the perception that D2D is not the same as normal mail yet the whole concept of allowing members to "manage" D2D themselves creates the perception that D2D is not the same as normal mail.
It's muddled thinking.
The only way open to the union if it really wants to protect jobs is to embrace the notion of a blanket 1/6th per day otherwise the whole argument about cold calling which is the bigger argument is flawed.
Outside of a rural delivery(possibly) there is no coherent argument for not doing 1/6th per day.
If D2D is "live" mail then obviously you have mail for that address.

I hope you do understand what I was saying... What I am saying is that junk is junk whether addressed or not? We get paid to deliver all sorts of mail and that is the way we should approach things.bigcol wrote:chrisj wrote:what is the different with proper 'addressed' junk mail.
They don't have to be delivered until Saturday.
I heard a postman ask the manager if he could leave Sainsbury's 'addressed' leaflets and do them over 3 days and manager said yes - if that is no wilful dealy, then I dont know what. Some do the same for Tesco vouchers, Shell points and so on...
You will find that it depends really on office/local policy or your floater. I know some senior floaters that will not allow some postmen to leave them with d2ds in the frame. For example, I have been left with 85 d2ds from mon and tuesday by the walkholder I am covering 2morrow... I am just doing my 1/6th and moving on.

Yet another CWU Agreement that is open to all kinds of interpretation, abuse and selfish deployment.

Re: A sixth a day
and if your frame has double slots???... Which most frames do.... How do you make that simple??..Mr Blonde wrote:There is no simpler way of doing them than having them in a slot and taking them where you are going that day. After Monday is done around 80% will have been delivered anyhow.
Also, one week you have 5 lots... How do you get them all in your frame, deliver where your going? And finish on time??

Could also call it "load balancing" ... which is FAR more sensible ...bigcol wrote:chrisj wrote:I heard a postman ask the manager if he could leave Sainsbury's 'addressed' leaflets and do them over 3 days and manager said yes - if that is no wilful dealy, then I dont know what. "We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

We've had that suggestion too. Bollocks to it. If a town walk has to do 1/6 a day and go down unecessary drives then a rural has too. There can't be one rule for one and a different one for another.fishtank wrote:Outside of a rural delivery(possibly) there is no coherent argument for not doing 1/6th per day.

If you have double slots then the likelyhood is that the two doors are near to or next to each other and don't present an issue.factorycat wrote:and if your frame has double slots???... Re: A sixth a day
And they'd be in double slots would they? I doubt it. If you have semi's with gardens in double slots on a full RM2000 frame then that is a very poorly planned fitting.Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Semi detached houses are usually seperated by gates and fences, so no, your wrong.Mr Blonde wrote:If you have double slots then the likelyhood is that the two doors are near to or next to each other and don't present an issue.factorycat wrote:and if your frame has double slots???... It was this Monday when there was hardly any mail... The customer has paid for the service even though at reduced (ridiculous) rate, so the mail should be delivered; its not like it is Xmas or something. We posties are making a rod for our own backs
