I would consider Spikeys are personal protective equipment and therefore the employer has a duty to provide them when necessary under the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.
Stocks would have to be held at delivery offices to comply with this surely?
Telling staff to order them is not complying with the regulations in my view.

Myself and 2 others have both fallen wearing those bloody spikes. I broke my screen in my PDA and tore the tendons on my shoulder
