I'm not that far behind you in number of years to go, POSTMAN. :d'oh! The thought of all those years ahead makes me want to throw up, but I'd
partake of a glass of hemlock before I'd cross the great divide, and believe me, there's no greater divide than the one between screws and workers.
uncrossable, mate, uncrossable. :so there
Well said Harry. When you cross over, you become a tool of the ruling class. This became apparent by the cocky way screws walked about after we lost the pay ballot in 2003 and in the run up to the first strike last June. They're not on our side, and if they aren't with us, they're against us. I'm bloody sick of hearing about the screw with the heart of gold who only wants to look after the posties and is really our mate. They make a choice to dump on our class, and in doing so become the enemy of the workers.

Exactly, mate. What happened in 2003 is the sort of thing that results from not backing the union over management. The screw with a heart of gold, yes,
I've yet to meet such a creature, not that I'm saying such an animal exists, but like the Unicorns, and the Griffins, I'm sure there's one out there somewhere.

I had come to think I was a lifer with about 20 years to go but now I'm pretty sure I'll be gone before long. I've had trouble with my back a few times and am on the sick right now. Either Rm will force me out or I will have found a better job. I used to love this job and even after accepting that I had to do more work in the same time, and doing my best to finish every day, I have come to realise we are being run by money grabbing parasites who don't give a t*ss how many of us workers end up on the breadline. As long as Mr Leighton can make several millions in bonus he does'nt care how many of us have our lives ruined, same for Crozier.
I hope Gordon brown can sleep at night knowing that house repossesions are rising and it's his fault and also what is happening to RM could be prevented, the fact it is'nt is also this so called labour governments fault.

You have to admit that in the time that these two have taken over there has been more people complaining about bad backs and knees, though not always going sick, and in my memory I have never known as many people, ordinary people, complain of and be off sick with stress. This complaint shouldn't be taken too lightly!

We've got a screw who says there is no such thing as stress. He didn't say it in front of the cluster manager though. He had eight weeks off with stress when he didn't get a job he applied for.

I have got 20 years left, I dunno how much longer this will go on tho, what sort of changes we will see over the next 12 months never mind 10 years, the Job has changed so much from 1986/7 it used to be quite easy, no pressure, no stress, early morning deliveries meant I didn't see the Victor Meldrews as they were in bed, I had the road to myself, no dodging traffic, I see Dawn breaking, Birds singing in the morning a sight not many see, getting overtime wasn't a case of 20 questions and a Spanish Inquisition, everybody used the van to go out, wages were crap tho.

now it is relentless pressure, no time to chat, slimeballs for managers, Victors Meldrew up and about moaning about gates, time of post or just being nasty (I hated being taken for granted), dodging traffic, I got so fed up that I am now on the Vans as there is no diffference, you no longer finish earlier than the vans, I wanted to save my back and knees as well, the money were better and Pension were considere teh best in the Business, we have to defend that.

we are trying to run a Universal service with one hand tied behind our back, with competitors sniping and cherry picking the most profitable service, collecting for less than what we charge and giving it to us to deliver on commercial bulk rate, we need a new visionary MD and Chief Executive than this lot we have, thats why they are on a higher salery, they are suppossed to improve and protect the Postal Service as ultimately their jobs depend on it, no Royal Mail , NO MD & CE will be needed.
Postcomm can't have it all their way, If we run at a loss, then we would be unable to provide a rural service something will have to give, its time Postcomm created a level playing field instead of Royal Mail bashing.

I had considered jumping ship but I do need somewhere to go first, not many jobs out there that pays as well or has pension scheme or Polish workers doing it for less.

Ok guys lets just try and calm down, work at a normal pace, dont rush dont get frustrated at these changes, lets make MANAGEMENT frustrated at these changes when we go along with what they want and show then how it fails. Just face the facts you wont be finishing earlier than your supposed to anymore, once that realisation really hits home and you can work at a more normal pace then youll feel a lot less pressure. If you dont have enough time bring work back let management deal with it, then go home and enjoy your afternoon and let the managers have the worry. Dont let them take us for granted stay strong ! A lot of the problems your mentioning are Royal Mails problem not your problem.

Indeed, I have alway come in the time I am suppossed to start, no earlier when I was on the walk, same when I am on the Vans, I never volunteered to do anything beyond my job description, I'm also one of the last men to lock the gates when we do our evening runs, I regularly drive a 600 and return to my office, which closes at 7pm and I am expected to get back for 7.15pm so I do that and no earlier, no point making a rod for your own back, most certainly with the management being what they are, If I do come back earlier they would only use it against me if I want overtime through the week for anything, that is exactly what is happening on the walk, the free hours is being used against the Postman while conveniently ignoring the fact some of them have been coming in early and using their cars, there is absolutely NO Incentive whatsoever, the Job and Finish practice doesn't exist anymore, in the long term it will work against you.

I am not a Socialist, International Workers Revolution Marxist type, I do however see this strike is neccessary I could live with a small wage increase, etc , but the Holy Grail is a PROTECTED and properly FUNDED Pension scheme and retiring at 60, as that what I was expecting when I started as a young sprog 20 years ago, my recruitment blurb, (I still have it in my folder along with my contract of employment and Offical Secrets Act form! I had to sign) stated that while I will work in all weathers and all sorts of customers and unsocial hours, we offer you a competitive Pension scheme and a secure job for life, that covenant is being eroded.

I've got 12yrs to go, as long as my health does'nt let me down. Never wanted to be a manager, saw a few rise up within the office, and did'nt like what they became.

"Never forget who you step on, on the way up, you might bump into them, on the way down"!!! :d'oh!
not worth the money for the hassle, for 2 shouts and my basic pay, I'm not getting too far from what the bosses are getting and I am happy with that.

I'm busy enough with my responsibilities in the Army, that is another source of income.
