That Royal Mail agrees to an independent enquiry into the bullying and harassment of postal workers and immediately ceases the use of unagreed HR procedures.

Word is Higson is still waiting,guess the wait will soon be over,phew...

I reject any suggestion that there is widespread bullying and harassment of our people and we have asked you many times to let us have any examples or evidence that you may have on this important subject so we can thoroughly investigate them through our established process. As you know, we have a zero tolerance approach in this area.

If there is to be any trust left in the CWU these matters must be given the most highest priority by the executive and a comprehensive list made and supplied to Moya Greene of all managers that have engaged in activities outside of the national agreements and Royal Mails Conduct Code and an independant enquiry made to expose these people for what they are.

According to those have been at most if no all of the briefings , they have been a good opportunity for unit reps to listen to what is happening in the bigger picture and equally an opportunity for local reps to report exactly what is happening in their offices.

Clearly there are some issues which the union need to react to and stop. Royal Mail have written to the union a list of 50 offices which are failing across all 5 regions and where they will be outside help to fix including a new PIR. Royal Mail also want Price Waterhouse coopers accountants visiting those offices which the union want clarification on .

The union needs to resolve the failing revisions and stop any bullying.

However there is going back to the old way of delivery be that bikes , bag on shoulder etc. The Landscape has changed Royal Mail held a conference of managers on Wednesday concerning the next steps for the postal market.

Royal Mail now recieve 50% of its revenue from packets alone. it's a very competitive markets , most areas have grown by 11% , some of the more rich areas have grown by 16%. Due to DSA and the digital revolution revenue from letters and flats are declining.

Royal Mail have managed to capture further Internet companies . Royal Mail's strategy is to ensure all packets are tracked in the future hence the order of 120,000 PDAs and automation for packets.

Royal Mail's strategy of only going up the path once for all mail including packets is still on their agenda but they now recognise they will need bigger CDVs in some offices.

Unfortunately, for most of us at least, we only see the "little" picture - that small circumference that surrounds our daily working life - we leave the big picture for those who are paid to deal with it - sadly as we don't see the "Big" picture, those who do no longer see the "Little" picture. As in pointillism the big picture is made up of many little pictures which creates the whole and you must look carefully to see how the picture is created.

It has taken a considerable amount of time for the union to admit that there is a problem considering that the current agreement ends in just four months time and that it was a 3 year agreement - much trumpeted as a triumph as I recall. So what is the strategy going forward? It's a bit galling that after ignoring the membership for the best part of three years the CWU now take notice when they need support. The problem is that there has been a proliferation of part timers employed in the last three years - in fact every employee in my office employed in the last 3 years has been part time. Now for the sake of clarity WHAT IS THE BREAKDOOWN OF FT/PT AND HOW FAR AWAY FROM THE 75/25 ARE WE.

So if the traffic is above the model week do you not lapse

That's a more complicated position than you think.
As a rep i would argue that traffic below the model week does not necessarily trigger lapsing across a whole office because it would depend on how the office was resourced,different traffic stream volumes and individual duty breakdown.
Today for instance our traffic was below model week on letters and flats but packets were way above model week so...no lapsing.
The same argument can obviously work in reverse but if your office is continually lapsing regardless of traffic which some offices are that needs to be stopped.

I's a very sad state of affairs and I feel very sorry for OPGs that have to work under these circumstances. it's certainly not fair, not right and with profits up massively there is no excuse for RM not doing the right thing and investing in this area of the business. They won't of course, driven by greed ambition and the holy cow of privatisation so it just leaves the CWU to force them.

Christmas pressure will highlight the issues and when items lie undelivered the customer will wonder why they were forced to pay such a high price rise. Competitors, particularly those geared up for parcel delivery will be rubbing their hands. I heard of a London DO which lapsed 19 out of 60 walks the week before last on a Saturday ... so much for customer service.

You're obviously confused general, they aren't looking at B&H but why the offices are failing - and I count 57 but they are the ones RM say are failing not the 120+ that members say are failing and certainly not a check on why designated equipment isn't being used. Personally I think it's a bit late to be looking after 2 and a half years when there is only a short time until the agreement comes to an end. Which is more than likely why the Union and RM are taking such a sudden interest. The Union because they need the support for any future agreement in order to sit at the table with any degree of authority and RM because they must accelerate the Business Transformation in order for privatisation to go ahead and so they need to come up with a plan for April which delivers the goods.

You're right DV,these are offices that are failing to meet savings targets not failing to meet members aspirations and "independent managers" means one thing,more pressure being applied to local management to meet those targets which of course translates as more pressure on our members.
Why anyone on the union side would try to paint that as a positive sign is beyond me...
And why bring in the bean counters,are they going to stop bullying?
