That would be little different from the pre-revision way of doing things.
RM with their declining revenues needed to save money, they were trying to get away from separate packet duties.

On the other hand new customers (despatching) would be attracted to a service that was of benefit to the recipient and this would be a way of attracting more custom. There would also be savings on workload for returning items to DOs and despatching them to the unit where the callers office is (if not at DO).Straight4ward wrote:That would be little different from the pre-revision way of doing things.

Nice idea but, sadly, you'll find that costs are foremost in their minds..On the other hand new customers (despatching) would be attracted to a service that was of benefit to the recipient and this would be a way of attracting more custom.

Re: Moderisation? NO NEED WHAT SO EVER!
We all know that you have hit the nail on the head. Its all about saving money while down grading the service.I fear for the future of this company, because we are just being driven into the ground to be privatised.Selling off far too much land and property ,for example, which is going to lead to a major crisis in the future when we haven't got the space to do the job anymore. Royal Mails planners are just greedy and short sighted.Just one more thing i would like to add. This new shceme about leaving mail with neighbours if your out. Royal Mail couldn't give a stuff about the customer, its just all about closing delivery office's.I hope alot of people ask for a sticker to opt out of this, that would really bugger them up.

I doubt anyone will listen to what you say if you continue to spout the sort of shite quoted above.briantwigley wrote: ........... I will go back and forward on myself for a poxy jumper in a packet you don't even remember you ordered because you were too busy picking up junk food down at tesco with your benefit money. Or maybe you even had a job?
I wish someone actually listened to what we said...
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Moderisation? NO NEED WHAT SO EVER!
this is a good post, i think meal relief will go. delivering up long pathways should be a nono, postmen hate that crap.
it can be efficient, but postmen need to be united and follow the rules and stop coming in early the old guard will do anything to protect their position.
the delivery system should be more up to date, we should make use of twitter, customers need to know that the item is in the system.
dsa should be abolished, how much revenue has royal mail lost.
there seems to be very little unity between regions as well.
more delivery offices will be shut as royal mail disposes of property possible too late now, as real estate is in downfall.
i think as postmen, do you really enjoy the job anymore, if not what alternatives do you have, you have a lot to think about, will ill health retirement payments be stopped.
I think royal mails definition of modernisation, is something of a fantasy.
those who have been in royal mail a long time cannot believe what has happened, i think the rot began in about 2009, i remember seeing bt having dsa on the letters.
i hope the board continues with these good points.

It should never have been introduced. It was a deliberate policy to undermine the USO dressed up in the same language of neoliberalism that has seen all the other public services privatised and you should be in doubt as to who the political classes really represent.pokos27 wrote:dsa should be abolished

Re: Moderisation? NO NEED WHAT SO EVER!
DSA has cost RM jobs without doubt as other firms are part-processing work that was originally proper to RM but to process this mail at a loss makes no financial sense at all and the Regulator and the Govt knew precisely what it would do to the business. When it was launched I thought fine .... but let them process the mail right through to delivery and not just cherry pick the easier end of the pipeline with machineable mail streams.Mr Rush wrote:It should never have been introduced. Re: Moderisation? NO NEED WHAT SO EVER!
Whether the workforce or even the CWU believe modernisation was necessary is irrelevant.
The fact is every Business reorganises the union has to then deal with those changes and negotiate the best terms.
This happened when we had two deliveries and 95% of work was going out on the first due to the changes to the workplan. This was leading to attacks on full time jobs with some areas having only 1 second delivery for ever seven first deliveries. The CWU organised a campaign to move to one delivery and in the end got an agreement which included the biggest pay rise in Royal Mail's history and the Ending of the 6 day week for delivery staff.
The 2007 dispute pay and mod started cause Royal mail wanted to cut costs and bring in the strings linked to the pay deal including removal of any payment to door to door. Royal Mail during that time along with the Government and the Hooper report was recommending the introduction of automation. The resolution to Pay and Mod talked about working groups on changes which came to nothing.
Royal Mail borrowed the commericial loan of the government in order purchase sequencing machines and Ilsms etc.The money borrowed was going to ensure that the machines operated on 6 days per week which meant longer Saturdays was inevitable as was later starts. Royal Mail and the Government then requested European state aid to resolve the pension issue and was granted based on Royal Mail restructuring.
The introduction of Door to door into workload was something Royal Mail first proposed in 2005 under securing the future agreement with no ongoing payment. The union did not agree that but as Royal Mail's revenue kept falling due to DSA then door to door into workload to help reduce the gap was always going to happen but the union managed to ensure an ongoing payment.
Contray to what most seem to believe on here , door to door has not greatly increased since the introduction into workload , this is why Royal mail have now introduced a new integrated process for door to door including printing ect.
So in the same way a Motor company will say to their workforce we are no longer building the Capri we are now doing the cortina an Company can change the way it does things and no union has a veto on that , our job is to ensure we get the best agreement we can and put that agreement to the members.
Oh by the way Royal mail want to cease the sequencing of mail from an MPU on a sunday night and do the sequencing in a mail centre on a Sunday night. In addition they believe that some walk sequencing machines are not being utilised due to the fall in letter traffic and may remove or mothball some. Should be an intresting period.

This is more like watching Ford stop making the Focus and start making the Model T......out of used parts....with no instruction manual.dingo wrote:So in the same way a Motor company will say to their workforce we are no longer building the Capri we are now doing the cortina an Company can change the way it does things and no union has a veto on that .
Couldn't someone from the union have at least stuck their hand up and said,by the way Mr H your plans are s**t,maybe you should ask those who have been building cars for years how to build a car?

Re: Moderisation? NO NEED WHAT SO EVER!
Plenty of people Sid it was s**t some of us was out for 20 days striking about it , but whilst we stopped some of their agenda we could not stop the introduction of automation, the drive to increase productivity , the introduction of CDVs and door to door into workload so after you said its s**t what would be your next plan to stop it ?
