Asking for leave, not getting it and then by pure chance going sick on the same day, that's bound to cause even the dimmest dim to start asking questions.

Yes of course, i agree.

That is why i never ask if i think there's the slightest chance it may be fully booked (you can usually guess those weeks).

I still say that if you find yourself at stage 3 then you have been very silly.
