Any particular reason why post boxes need a special colour? (and why I got one :))
It would separate the mail for easy sorting,bit like the green and red pouches for metered mail,1st and 2nd class.
It's all pointless now except for the meter pouches.
They withdrew most of the meter pouches in my area months ago.
meter pouches went years ago over here, the collection guys have to tray things up now.
Blimey yes,been a while since i done a collection.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

As has already been said:

Green = Specials
Blue = Airmail
Red = Letterbox/Collections
Grey/Clear/White = Normal mail and packet
Stupid white ones that won't hang on a frame = DSA Shite/meters/PPI

It's a good idea in principle because if it's done right then all the mail would be colour coded but none gives a toss any more and Royal Mail won't allocate the hours to make sure someone segregates the different colour sacks while they aren't being used..

We might remember that colour coding is hardly a new idea.
Way back in 1840 the 1d stamps were black and the 2d stamps were blue to help distinguish them. :Very Happy

In the MC in my area they are used for different collections so that basically when they are unloaded the bank staff don't have to look inside to segregate them.
Its something like White/grey-box collections
Red-1st class meter post
Green-2nd class meter post
Blue-Horizon (whatever that is)
You can tell i work on deliveries.

Horizon, named after the computer system, are the gold ( originally white ) postage labels printed for customers in Post Office as an alternative to conventional postage stamps.

It's kind of a throw back to how Royal Mail used to have a rule for everything and a correct way of doing literally everything. However as privatisation has kicked in over the years there just isn't the time any more, corners get cut and things stop getting done correctly either because people cannot be bothered or because the time allocated to do a job is streamlined.

Another example is sticky labels, Royal Mail has a sticky label for everything lol. "Dead letter labels", "Pink International Dead letter labels", Can't get in because the Trade Button is off labels", "Unofficial Redirections labels", "Insufficient Address but we found you anyway labels", "Dog at Large cannot deliver labels", "Delayed/Damaged labels and tape", "Airmail Item Returned due to insufficient postage labels", "Form left stickers (for the packets) labels" the list goes on!!

Who these days has time to stick all those on letters when doing their prep lol? About the only ones that get used will be the dead stickers and half the time none can be f****d to do those in my office!
