Maybe in yours, come and try them in ours. No reason to lie, I just cover duties and my body doesn't lie to me when the week ends, simples. :neutral:

I don't think anyone is accusing anyone of lying. Like most things in Royal Mail everything is different from office to office. At my office we have different types of rurals - deep rurals and outlying town rurals. Both are hard and both are easy in their own ways, just like most duties.

As an adult worker according to the working time directive you should not be expected to work in excess of 6 hours without at least a 20min break.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/employment/ ... g_10029451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is also your Relaxation Allowance which is built into all PVs and workload calculations, this is typically 12-14% in a Mail Centre and I would expect this to be 15-17% for a walking OPG (see attached). At 17% it is around 10mins within every hour. Your Meal Relief is in addition to this.

Well if you want an opinion based on legal matters I would suggest contacting HQ or CAB.

However, my belief would be that in some cases they can it all depends on the context.

For instance you are only entitled to a break if you work 6 hours or more and the break in that case is a minimum of 20 minutes. So in that context yes they can make you work more than 5 hours without a break.

However, if you work more than 6 hours then the break must follow these requirements http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/employment/ ... g_10029451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the break must be in one block
it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

So in that context it would be dependant on how many hours you work. (ie for 10 hour working day its ok - for a 6:30 day - no it wouldn't - for an 8 hr day - its a grey area as there are no guidelines for such a vague statement as "somewhere in the middle")

Also to add to the confusion we get more than the statutory requirement so do the regulations apply to the whole rest break or just the 20 minutes legal requirement. To further muddy the pot we also have agreements on breaks that allow us to split them into 2 20 minute chunks.
