why is ill health retirment just excepted as the norm

For me it was a godsend Keith. My knees were getting worse by the day, even though I had very little time off with them. I was managing to cover the locker on light duties, but they didn't class it as a duty, therefore if I couldn't go out pounding the streets, they didn't have a job for me. As i said, godsend cos even the locker was getting harder.
