Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
What do you mean "absorb the hour?"
If you move to a 39 hr week, it means you work 39 hours each week.
If you move to a 39 hr week, it means you work 39 hours each week.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

No re-alignment of workload to account for fewer hours.
Absorb the work hour.
I could be wrong.

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
they want us to do the same duty stuctures as a 40 hour week but change 318's to show 39 hours.
so we work that hour for nothing NOT A SWW AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
But your 318 (now there's a blast from the past) will have to show you starting 12 minutes later or finishing 12 minutes earlier.
Either you will complete your duty in your contracted hours or you won't.
I still don't understand how you can absorb the hour (unless you are all making lots of time every day) or what it has to do with £600.

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
SWW is all very well but be careful with what you ask for. Several years ago in a previous employment i got a SWW, how? Well my employer stopped paying for my meal breaks.............Overall hours at work didn't change pay didn't change just didn't get paid for my meal break. It leads to smaller % future pay deals.
So for full timers take 5X40 mins 3hr 20min (i think, not good at maths) so we are some way towards a SSW of 35hrs. But we wont notice the difference as we will start and finish at the same time. Cant see the gain?????? However those that can will sell this as our hourly rate will increase and so therefore so will pay deals. Dream on dream on................

There are enough in my DO doing more than that... whilst others get bugger all.clashcityrocker wrote:A shorter working week is a pay rise as well.
A pay rise is just a pay rise.
There should have to be a very good reason for someone doing over 10 hours overtime in a week.
Funny this senior thing!!!

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
Problem I see with this is, if we do get privatised and the new owners drop us to minimum wage, dingo wrote:Talks on a 2 year pay deal covering 2013 and 2014 have been discussed. Now the shorter working week is a complex issue if we had. 35 hour gross we would actually be working less than 32 hours in deliveries due to paid meal reliefs and just over 30 hours for mail centres.
Now most companies do not have paid meal reliefs and if we kept paid meal reliefs and went to 35 hour gross we would have the least working hours in industry and I do not belive that is going to happen. Of course you could give up paid meal reliefs like professional drivers and your hourly rate would increase and of course any percentage on pay would be higher.
We will only be getting paid for 35 hours!

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
Surely for every 39 FT posties at an office, one extra FT position should be created when a depot goes from 40 to 39 hour weeks? I would have thought that would be at least 3 jobs at an average size depot.
Then think about all those hours that are saved on a weekly basis by people starting early; not taking paid meal relief; carrying pouches instead of using LWTs and HCTs; filtering mail on the move instead of immediately after posting mail through a letterbox; not claiming o/t etc. Posties are their own worst enemy at times, they are costing their own depot jobs and saving the management >£100K at many depots.

Re: SWW or % Pay Rise
Well ilmrt, that is a well made point but as you may be aware that is never going to happen, what is happening is the extra work is absorbed, but of course time is allowed for itIloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:Surely for every 39 FT posties at an office, one extra FT position should be created when a depot goes from 40 to 39 hour weeks?
