Good its no problem for you and I am happy for you. But put the shoe on the other foot would you try to change it if Royal Mail said you had to start at 5.00am and you had no choice in the matter and no they would not talk to the union about it.
Edward Hunter wrote: As far as i understand it RM has had this forced on them by european regulations, and now have kept the early allowance for you lot out of london.
Rubbish - its a money saving move pure and simple. I went for my LGV (failed unfortunately) 10 years ago and all wagons were limited to 57mph then - 1 mph is not going to make the difference they say it is. The allowance is kept only while you are carrying out the duty but they don't explain exactly what that means.

Yes I've been doing it so long my life is now worked around it.

Later Starts

Post by JAMESMARSH1980 »

We were informed of the later starts this morning, are office will be on later starts as of the 8th October, this was greeted by a chorus of boos and abuse shouted at are manager, the main points that were said to him was, child care (coollecting children from school/ nursery, other jobs, a lot of us have second jobs in the afternoon that this will affect, summer weather (at least if you are out early you are not carrying bags about when the temperatures are at the hottest, and the main point was the public, 99% of them want there post early, people getting post at 3pm in the afternoon will cause uproar. But when said to the manager he may well have said we dont care about the public as he just shrugged is shoulders and said well they will have to get used to it.

I took this job on because we were planning a family, and didn't want to have a stranger bringing up our child. My wife and I arranged our lives around our respective jobs/childcare commitments appropriately.

Now with no consultation, and what seems like a made up reason to change, my two year old sons routine will be messed around.

If your start time suits you, don't complain.

If it doesn't suit us, at least allow us to fight our corner without your criticism, as well as managements.

It might mean more to us than an extra half hour in bed.
