I prefer using the HCT's they are more stable and give you something to hold onto where as with LWT's your pulling it round with one arm behind your back it also hits into my heels alot when i pull it.

Theres also the security aspect HCT's are pretty secure you can lock them up at end of street and just do small bags with an LWT i don't let it out of my sight as it would be so easy for someone to walk past and grab a bag off it.

I have tried a LWT but hated it.

I was also shown how to push it and not pull, which seemed odd to me

Its easier to push the LWT but apparently its a H&S issue incase you hit something and hurt yourself on trolley

I think these days they are more worried about damage to the trolley.

The quicker we go sick then the quicker they can sack us :cry

Dont complain of bad backs then as the trolleys are there to get the weight off the shoulder
It is also slower with a trolley so you cut off more as it would take an extra hour with a trolley to complete the round.
Which is the point I was trying to make!
Knowbody uses the feckers now because we have an office of cretins who run around and come in early and yet moan like feck when the local bullyboy either puts more on their walks or gets rid of more duty's.Can you tell them though...no.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

You are aware that HCTs should only be locked up to an immoveable object for upto 10 minutes (can be as little as 2), depending upon the "security risk" assigned to that duty by RM themsleves?

This rule can be kept very quiet at some places, not even mentioned by managers, because they know full well that when applied the HCT walks will take longer to complete (so either more o/t or more cut-off) than locking up the trolley and doing big loops using just a heavy pouch (going against the whole point of a HCT)...

I didn't realise it was 10 minutes max but i have been told to use a baby pouch which basically will only hold a bundle or two.

What a treat,a troll for us all to bite at lol :nana :nana :nana :nana    :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy  :arrrghhh
Actually in this case he is not a troll - he is a fairly new Postie and new in the employment market who is perhaps a little naive in his view of RM.

@karchun - the the use of assigned equipment for each duty is Mandatory - so if the duty your on is designed for a golf trolley then you have to use it. If you take a chance and injure yourself, perhaps going sick as a result - Royal Mail may well deem you as wholly responsible for the accident/injury. A quick read through the sick absence threads on RMC will show you what can happen then.
Sorry but how do i use it then...because i've been only taught on how to open and push/pull it ... as in how would i use it efficiently??
My manager says we are using this in about 2/3 weeks time but how do i use it - 2 bags either side then what??(Do i carry a pack in my arm while dragging the trolley?)
I don't know why but by the looks of the comments i'm guessing this new routine is to be dreaded - i originally would get 1 pouch at a time from the car/van which i found extremely efficient - especially since it sort of loops! :nervous

If you have a duty that uses golf trolleys under the P&L system then you have the general idea already - basically you and you partner will do loops round the van like you already do with your private care.

If you go rural - 1 man in van then thats also the same you'll work in loops back to it when needed.

If you are using a HCT then the duty should have been reviewed before its used to make sure its both viable and in line with various agreements (especially security of mail - this affects how long you can leave it and where). The basic rules are that the duty should be only 1 mile from the office, and you push the HCT round the duty with you. You may need refilling using this method and that should also be taken into account when designing the walk.

Depends on the security assessment for the street/flats - and whether its suitable or not. The current member doing the duty should be able to make an educated guess and should brief the Planner and Manager during the 1-2-1s.

This stuff is really confusing and i can see from face value that this plan is really useless...Would this mean if i'm a slow worker in delivering mail i would have to speed up to work cohesively with another colleague?

No it means you both have to find a pace that you are both comfortable with.
Having worked with approximately 20-30 different p&l partners over the past year i can let you into a secret...most people work at roughly the same pace...some people just like to talk themselves up...or down.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Do you still have some available and if so where as i need a couple.

I heard they have them with swivel wheels now at the front to steer better any truth in that?

I also heard you can buy them through an external company as Romec were under pressure to supply anyone know where so we can speed the process up?

PM me if you still have some trolleys please.

Thanks

Personally I find the LWT particularly helpful ... takes all the weight off your joints and cannot understand why people dig their heels in and refuse to use them ... prefer to push it myself rather than pull and invariably have a bag on each side, one for the mail and one for the packets ... take as many packets in the bag as possible to keep the large packet delivery from the van in between loops to a minimum.

I do acknowledge that if you have a street where it's possible to walk across the frontage of houses rather than up and down a garden path then it would slow you down and prove a bit frustrating but to me it's still an improvement on carrying a 16kg (+) bag on your shoulder
