So who does that leave to police the system? Perhaps some of these OFtel/OFwatch/OFcomms who ever? Thought they were meant to be making sure we're doing the job properly? :hmmmm
health and safty rep

No...you're thinking about a manager.
reps...represent they don't sneak about like the other side even if the motivation is the greater good.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
And this is exactly the problem we currently have at our office.

1) Staff dropping of their buddy near their home so they don't have to come back into the unit; usually making anything then between 20-30 minutes A DAY

2) Staff not using the trolley so 'making time'.

Me and the other rep have had this convo time after time. We can't grass up the individuals nor will they listen to us so we have to let it slide and, all the time managers are grinning from ear to ear as they know when the time comes they'll have loads of spare hours for the members to collapse etc and they won't have a leg to stand on. You'll see them every day rolling in when they're off at 3pm anything between 14:20 to 14:40. It should take no more than 5-7 minutes for 2 staff (if you're lucky) to unload the van of empty bags, P739 items and log off the vehicle. They're whistling through the door at 14:45 making 15 minutes EACH. Aghhhhhhh. Maddening isn't the word! No DOM is going to let that slide and you can't blame them. All we want are the members to DO THE DAMNED JOB PROPERLY AND USE TROLLEYS; TAKE BREAKS; DON'T RUSH OR KNOCK ON NEIGHBOURS DOORS WITH PACKETS and TO BOTH COME BACK IN WHEN DUTY COMPLETED!

Doing park and loop in vans is a farce.Today my usual buddy is on day off so therefore someone elsev filled in from own office.Firstly we done his big packets and dropped off his bags for his walk then both done our lapsing.
Before dropping him off i informed him that he must meat me at the end off my walk and elp me finnish it off as my walk is longer. As i need to do businesses, big packets etc before i can start my walk. That way we should both finish on time for half past one,or so i thought......
Anyway into my second last bag, with say six or seven stairs to do before i drive down to do last bag.My so called buddy for the day turns up,face tripping him needless to say demand i open the van door for him which i did,so continued going into next stair thinking so far so good he may empty his bags into the van and help me from here.
How wrong was i ,came out the stair, van somehoe locked and low be-hold his pda,no entry bundles, keys etc.. was there and no sign off him :evil/mad
This was at quarter too one,so one mega pissed off postie had too finish the remaing stairs and final bag by myself while mr jack is home putting the kettle on.Result was i was ten minutes over and that is not counting the four mile journey back too depot.
When i did get there,i gave my DOM my piece of mind as he was leaving the building,so therefore i expect fireworks tomorrow :mad :mad

andy...your not doing park&loop.
All you are doing is dropping off bags and taking him to his start point.
If you worked the way it is supposed to be done you wouldn't have had that problem.

Yes i am aware of that bud, however the park and loop was tested on it like all walks in the office whilst i was on long term sick at the time and most if not all walks were averageing under two hours overtime a day.
As we keep telling the dom it is impossible due to the fact we have mostly stairs and business in our area so therefore the best we can do is drivers droppoff the buddys'bags at boxes, big packets etc....and casrry on normal duties and may i state in my army days MIS for ous jack i'm alright stands for muck in spirit. Too help the other buddy so both are finnishing on time. :pray

If you're ex-army andy you will know the importance of doing things by the book.
It's not your place to invent ways of doing it faster just to keep your Dom in a job.
Do it properly and if you can't finish...cut off and let someone else...that's how we protect our jobs.
You can't really bitch about your partner not playing by the rules when you aren't either. :cuppa

If I am right about the reson for introducing the trollies, then you should always use them. Because if you don't, and you get injured, the Managers will blame you for failing to use the right equipment. However if I'm wrong, then it won't make a difference.

Yea, quite right mate, they were.

Dorset Plodder wrote:We've got such an in-grained culture in this Business of Posties that don't give a s**t about anyone else and just please themselves, that even making something MANDATORY doesn't seem to work! FT :arrrghhh

I can't see Management, Or Reps, bothering themselves with the enforcement of (what to some) is an necessary procedure. Both parties prefer the ,"Anything for a Quite Life" approach. Perhaps when these Security Types are cruising around checking on Hi-Vis and ID cards they should add, Using Correct Delivery Means? :hmmmm And not only picking up the Postie on it but Reporting the Manager for not enforcing it.

I can't see any other way of ensuring the correct equipment is used ...unless Managers start Disciplining people who don't use it and Mangers are themselves Disciplined for not making sure Deliveries are done properly! :hmmmm

I won't sit back for a quiet life mate, if anyone is not doing the job properly I will have to have a word and explain, nicely, the cost of their actions!
