If someone on light duties is indoors and delivering posties come back early and are still allowed to leave the depot early taking account of their meal relief allowance (which should not be taken at the end of the shift anyway), surely those light duty people are perfectly allowed to walk out the door at the same time as the first delivering postie leaves for home?
Managers surely cannot be allowed to select which staff get an early finish and which must do work until their contracted finish time? If the managers are stupid enough to let any staff go early, despite the nationally agreed "work all your daily hours" routine that kicked in over 18 months ago, then all depot staff have that right.
Its been this way for yonks
those working indoors work their hours eg PHGs (yes i know its not always the case)
those outdoors had the carrot of an early finish vs actually doing a delivery, weather etc
kicking up a fuss will no doubt get the delivery staff more work to do
I generally work my hours anyway so its no skin off my nose either way
using your logic should those on indoor dutes wait until the last delivery postie is back?

i can imagine rm reading this thread thinking the obvious.
maybe they want to give more work to eople in your office...clearly looks like they have some ammo to do so if they found out.
if you turn it into a greivance issue i cant see how you will be helping your office apart from costing jobs and lining up more for the dims bonus pot.

Or maybe it will encourage people to stop coming in early, stop using their cars, stop cutting corners etc.custard wrote: kicking up a fuss will no doubt get the delivery staff more work to do

And they don't have to wait for the last postie back, they just have to work their contracted hours.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
This practice of letting outdoor staff may have gone on for yonks, but the point is "job and finish" was supposed to have ended in April 2010. If two posties have the same contracted finish time and both are in the depot (one have completed a delivery walk and one having done indoor work all morning), its discrimination if one is allowed to go early but not the other, pure and simple.
On the same note, if one postie is still delivering mail inside contract time while they see another with the same finish time on their way home, that is just plain wrong. Should the one still delivering mail put in an o/t claim from when they saw their colleague until they are ready to go home, or could the early finisher be doing deads/ASAP/D2D advance prep etc. until it is officially time to go home? There is always work to be done of some discription, but tieing in with another recent thread, a blind eye is turned by managers when it suits them (although they or those higher no doubt note the early finishes and then decide more hours can be saved).
I have never known a business so cack-handed as what I've seen since becoming a postie, where posties are still trying to finish early by cutting corners, knowing full well that managers are looking at ways to save man hours... At times you wou think that perhaps all of us are temps so the long term fallout will not effect us, but the scary thing is most of us are expecting this job to keep paying the bills until we retire!
