Is that a two minute walk from the office of your previous applications or from this current one ?splatterfaces wrote:I live about a 2 minute walk from the sorting office actually.

Re: New Postmen/women Interview Techniques
1. Have you ever been in a position of trust by someone giving you something to look after?
Yes - I was entrusted with picking up my sisters children from school when she was in hospital. It did mean having to leave work on time though which wasn't looked upon too fondly by my manager.
2. Give an example of when you worked as part of a team.
Certainly can - I was asked to give my opinions on the proposed revisions by the planning team for our office. It turns out that my practical and realistic thoughts on the matter did not quite tally with the projected ideals so I was ignored and any potential pitfalls I raised where sidestepped. It felt good to be part of a team.
3. Give an example of when you had to work on your own initiative.
Hmmm - I find in my current employment that the methods handed down by management are completely impossible to comply with if you want to actually perform the role within anything like the timeframe given. As my immediate supervisor is either (a)a moron, or (b) completely lacking in relevant knowledge, I am often left to use my own initiative to implement my own solutions.
4. How would you deal with an customer who is not happy with the service they have received?
Traditionally businesses would sympathise with the customer and try to find the root cause of any problems and take steps to ensure it is corrected even if this is a difficult course to take. However the method which my current employer takes is to ask the customer to contact a distant Customer Service dept and hope that they are satisfied with a generic letter stating that the large volume of work means fuckups are inevitable. A small book of stamps is another option.
5. How do you keep yourself fit?
A brisk 5 hour walk during the hottest part of the day with maximum exposure to the suns rays.
6. Give an example of when you worked to a deadline.
There was a time when customers were thought to prefer our service early in the morning and my last letter was supposed to be delivered by 930am. It's funny how deadlines and customers needs/wants can change in relation to the companys preferences.
7. Have you ever done a repetitive job before and what did you do to make it easier?
I constantly kid myself that there is less and less work for me to do. Coupled with "motivational" talks from my manager helps the day fly by.
Also, a monthly magazine featuring storys about how my job is actually fantastic and everybody who performs the same role as me finds it all works so well.

How things change.
Years ago (so all the old boys say) it was-
1) what's missing in this picture of a bike? (it was the chain)
2) Which way does the funnel smoke blow in this sea-scape picture? (no, not necessarily the opposite direction to the ship..)
3) Which section is your Dad/uncle/brother in?
Being ex-pongo or skate helped immensely too....
