Tell your rep what is going on,and join the union pronto.Ask rep for a form.

If you're going to stay at RM then get yourself a diary and record EVERYTHING in it, how many hours you worked over your time, when your told your manager about it, what he said about it.
But my advice is to leave this job, stacking supermarket shelves is better than the crap the new starters have to put up with these days.

As others have said the ans is to join the Union asap to stop them treating you like this.

I have sent in my union form today and hopefully they can do something about it if it continues. I am trying my best to get up to full speed as soon as possible then at least I not have to argue each time I go over and ask to be paid.
The way I have been treated is really awful. Being expected to work for nothing in this day in age. I could understand if I have been there for a couple of months but not on my second day out on my own. What makes it worse is there are many new starters that are doing this and think that it is acceptable. If I would have not complained I would have been doing lapsing all this week and finished about 4pm every day.
Thanks for all your help. I was up all last night worried about going in today but it was alright in the end. Just got out on the round as soon as I could and the line manager was alright today.

You will normally find a manager will back down quite quickly when faced with the Union as in this case the manager is WRONG and he well knows it.

I spoke too soon :-(
Just had the most horrible and painful day of my entire life. Got in for work 20 minutes early only to find only half of my letters had been put into the frame. I had to put the rest in. LM put me on a round that he never give lapsing for (I knew it must be tough for him to say that). When I bagged it all up I was horrified by how much there was. Never seen so much mail in my life. Finally got out and delivered my first letter at 11:30 and did not finish until 5:45. Only had a very small break. Can’t believe I managed to walk for over 6 hours.
I am supposed to finish at 2pm as it states in my contract but LM made it clear to me that not only will he not pay me for any work I put in after 2pm I can never, under any circumstances, bring mail back no matter what time it is.
I really don’t know what to do know. I am totally shattered and cannot believe how I have been treated. Union know what happened as another postman told them when he witnessed me arguing with LM over not being paid.

First thing tomorrow go to you manager and ask for a grievance form and fill it it that you are being made to work for free by your manager. Make sure you record all the days and hours you've worked over, it might also help if you get a form from the tribunal office (whatever it is over there) and make a claim for unpaid labour.

Don't listen to him, when I was new they have to give u benefit of overtime especially once they expect u to finish prepping etc, if your not leaving til 1115 there is no way u can finish at 2, the manager is using and abusing you, probably as he knows what people will take to keep a job in this day in age. I know its hard but u need to stand up to him even if u get someone else in with u, u cannot work 4 hours for free under no circumstance. Everybody needs time to get used to rounds and prepping takes getting used too. Don't stand for it.

I have just emailed the union and put it all into writing. I hope they can do something to help me. I don't know how I am going to get through tomorrow in this pain.
