Re: 1 question
I'm going to let you into a secret ghost...95% of us used to be flyers.
In my office prior to 2003 we did the job properly Monday to Friday, not because we were good little boys but because there was no point in doing it any other way because you either had to come back for a second delivery or ASAP.
On a saturday things were different...it was once over the ground,we had a nightshift, came in early, skipped out the door at 6.45 and were finished before 0900...not a meal break in sight.
In 2003 along came SDD and to be honest at first we couldn't believe our luck,a five day week and job&finish in return for taking on a fifth of a walk(30mins) seemed too good to be true...and it was.At the time we were a smaller office and had about 60 full-time staff and 2 part-timers.
What we didn't realise was that job%finish had been brought in to decimate our full-time/part-time ratio and for the next three years every full-timer that left was replaced with a part-timer until our now much larger office stood at about 50/50.
This was a direct result of finishing early because as long as we did management felt that they could continue to strip indoor hours from the office....as more indoor hours went so the indoor work took longer and the opportunities to genuinely finish early went with them.so it ended up lose/lose for us...it has taken a lot of work to repair the damage done by job&finish and we won't hopefully make that mistake again.
We will work our hours without taking the piss but without getting a "spurt on" as you call it and finish on time whether the packets are done or not...but most of all we will protect our jobs.
You can come back early and take my packets out if you want...

An Honest Post FT!
Posties are just as capable of moving the goalposts when it suits them.
I used to watch in wonder as older posties used to stroll in 5 minutes before it was time to knock off, "Sorry Boss haven't got time to take any more out". Then suddenly Job and Finish came in and the same posties were knocking a couple of hours of their duty and buggering off home early!
No wonder RM were pissed off with paying someone a full days wages for sitting at home. (5 x 1.6 = 8 Hrs)
Surprisingly the same posties have now slowed down and are finishing on time again.
Crafty Buggers!
Don't even mention "Ghosting!"

Re: 1 question
I've had many discussions with Line Managers / DOMs about rushing to finishing early. Trying to explain what pacing yourself means is impossible. e.g. if I can do 3 hours work in 2 hours it does not mean I can do 6 hours work in 4 hours but they just don't get it.
The only real answer is work at a reasonable pace, perhaps not your fastest but sustainable and fair.

You have to protect your health and the sustainability of what your doing ie
your pace has to be one you can maintain 6 days a week.
our office has lost 6 full timers in last two years (not replaced).
Finishing early is not a worry anymore its difficult enough to achieve finish on time.
