In the quieter periods they used to say just come in and prep and deliver your round and don't : ery Happy do ips, can't see the problem with that as you are still getting paid for the hours you worked.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
i would not come in on my day off if they offered me 20 hours pay for 5 hours work!! used to do lots of o/t work days off etc up until about a year ago when they started to piss people about,so i stopped doing any o/t,if you can break out of the routine, you will feel loads better, mentally and physically, plus it gives great pleasure when they are in the s**t and you know they are dying to ask you to work, but they know its a waste of time because the answer is always in the negative

Never work my day off any more either - don't give a frak about them and their problems. Thing is, the managers don't seem to like me any more so they don't ask me anyway (they rarely acknowledge my existence). Exactly the same, walk right past me, just hesitate for a second when their brain tries to work out whether they should ask me before it goes blank again!taurus88 wrote:Never work my day off any more either - don't give a frak about them and their problems. Unless it is a new Lino, who knows nothing! Answer is always no, and they move on to the next frame.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
The sad thing is the fact that some muppets are willing to do it for less and spoil it for everbody. What I find in my office is the same people doing overtime. Why? because there the ones who will do it for 5 or even 4 hrs OT on there day off. Its these same people who will vote yes to an agreement for a pay off of around £150 for doing a lifetime of extra work in royal mail. Its all about today and forget about tomorrow attitude. Why is there so many of these muppets in royal mail?!!

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
looks like the predictive text got hold of me on my previous post.
I'm not saying they came in on their normal start times and worked their full hours for reduced pay, they started later and not do ips.
we have our fair share of muppets in our office who come in early unpaid or run round to get finished on time because their rounds are too big, my round is too big and I book everyday upto 2.5 hours, not really liked by the managers but it is tough I do the work so I should be paid for it as soon as they stop paying me then that is when I stop doing it.

Too many greedy ones in our office for that to happen and as a result it's 5 hours Mon and Tues, 6 hours the rest of the week (no IPS, full prep and delivery).fishtank wrote:Don't do it.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
you right we have gone to p&l and we have idiots starting an hour before there start times because the dutys are to big (never change ) and the doms have a group of blue eyes who wed - sat pay them to start early (1 hour a day) to go on ips (must be desperate) so it proves this new working doesnt work never paid a penny before.mrlovepantsuk wrote:looks like the predictive text got hold of me on my previous post.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
Used to happily work days off unless I had other things to do - then the rules changed to only having 5 or 6 hours available for you with a later start so I stopped doing days off because it was not cost or time effective FOR ME !!! - I mean what is the point of working five or six hours in the middle of the day and losing the whole of it without a reasonable financial inducement?
When asked to do a short day off, I offered to come in a do IPS and prep walks from 5:30 - 10:30 instead and had a couple of goes at that which left me with the rest of the day free, but now we have had a revision and have in effect more work to do, I don't do any days off on a walking duty as the rest is too important to me, and now that a percentage of the dtd workload is someone elses problem it makes that decision even more satisfying.
There are always, and always have been earning opportunities within a delivery office but RM now wants that work done for nothing because so many other parts of their management and networking have become too expensive to believe. As a business they have every right to expect us to work well and fulfil our obligations within our contracted hours and I have no problem with that. However - once you pass that magical 39 hour limit they should be asking for your help - not telling you what they want !!!
Do what suits you or negotiate for a better deal individually or collectively - RM needs you so don't let them dictate the terms.

Well said rhino...you either hold out for better terms, accept the terms on offer or simply exempt yourself.
The one thing it is pointless to do is accept their terms and then moan about it afterwards.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
So how come some people are doing 39 hours while the rest of us are still doing 40, thought it would only drop half hour now and another half at a later date?
our later start without IPS would still only be about 7.30 not 10.30 like some so it wouldn't be the waste of a day and would still pay 7 hours.

Re: Working your rest day / now not getting...
My office has had a partial park and loop revision with the remainder changing shortly. One of the conditions of us accepting a two part change was that ALL full timers went down to 39 hours whether on a revised route or not with part timers hourly rate upgraded accordingly. Also - ALL staff recieved the revision related bonuses - all of which have been paid on schedule.mrlovepantsuk wrote:So how come some people are doing 39 hours while the rest of us are still doing 40, thought it would only drop half hour now and another half at a later date?

So .....at this moment in time half the office still has early starts and if agreeing to work indoors only I would tell them I wanted to start at the early duty start time
.
Obviously, when the whole office moves to a later start (which will still vary depending on delivery method - HCT or LWT with van share) then it's up to the individual to accept what suits them as far as day off working goes.
Believe me - there is enough work in early no matter what the RM designed script says, and at present when there is no one on early then we are still sorting IPS at 09:30 although it is referred to as "missorts" (it isn't lol)
so ....back to the original gist of the thread.
If it suits you to work a day off on RM.s terms no problem !!! but don't be a soft touch for them - a managers job is to get value for money out of an employee - an employees responsibility to themselves and their family is to get what they are entitled to or a decent rest day if they can't get it.
